FKIP – In the context of implementing a leadership project, the Dhamar Community of Pre-service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Students Batch 1 of 2022 Indonesian Language Education Study Program (Prodi) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Reading Corner activity at Dukuh Sepokoh RT 5 RW 5, Pereng Village, Mojogedang, Karanganyar. This activity was held on Sunday (12/3/2023) at Pak Yoso’s house as a resident.
The implementation of the reading corner in Sepokoh Hamlet was motivated by public awareness regarding education was still low. Many children drop out of school or only finish elementary school and literacy awareness in children and adolescents still needs to be improved.
This project collaborates with Nyalanesia, Ratulisa, Bank BKK Central Java Karanganyar Branch, Karanganyar Bank, Karang Taruna Manunggal Jaya, Dukuh Sepokoh, and village officials, as well as the Dukuh Sepokoh community.
Natanael Feby Raenaldi as the chief executive, said that this activity was carried out to encourage the Sepokoh Village community to be fond of Literacy, increase reading material, and provide fighting spirit for children in improving self-quality.
“The purpose of implementing a reading corner in Dukuh Sepokoh is to invite all residents, especially children, to love literacy, increase residents’ reading materials by providing a village library or reading corner, and provide fighting spirit for children in improving self-quality,” he explained.
The implementation of this activity begins with a reading corner and study guidance. The activity continued with the inauguration of a reading corner with the Manunggal Jaya youth group and village officials, including RT, RW, and Hamlet Head.
Through the reading corner program, the Dhamar community hopes to benefit the campus, especially students in creating a spirit of Literacy.
“The community’s hope regarding implementing this activity for the campus is that it can impact the environment in creating a spirit of Literacy and providing change for the surrounding environment. Furthermore, through this activity, we also hope to add to the good image of Sebelas Maret University in the eyes of the public and other groups,” he said.
Apart from that, the Dhamar community also hopes that the Manunggal Jaya Youth Organization can work together to manage the reading corner and inspire everyone to improve literacy skills useful for everyday life.
“We hope that the activities in the village will become the initiator of establishing a village library with the help of several parties, especially local government officials,” he concluded.
