FKIP – The Student Association of Economics Education, Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Community Service activity entitled “Himannomy Serves (Himdi)” on Friday-Sunday (14-16/7/2023). The service was held in Segulo, Wukirsawit, Jatiyoso, Karanganyar.

Himdi 2023 aims to foster the social spirit of FKIP UNS Economics Education Study Program Students. Several activities were carried out, including lectures, children’s competitions, socialization of organic fertilizers, gymnastics, health checks, and distribution of necessities.

Contacted by the Fkip.uns.ac.id Journalist Team, Rahmat Wahyu Hidayat, as the General Chairperson of the Himannomy FKIP UNS revealed the background to choosing Segulo Hamlet as the venue for Himdi 2023.”  

“Our goal in choosing this location was to see the condition of the people of Segulo Hamlet, who are 80% farmers and have livestock. Manure from livestock is just thrown away and has to wait a long time to become organic fertilizer. Chemical fertilizers are increasingly expensive. Armed with this, we provide training on making organic fertilizer with a mixture of ingredients to speed up the process of making organic fertilizer and reduce the expenses of residents,” said Rahmat.

Furthermore, he also said that implementing this activity was a means to increase closeness with the community. This kind of activity is very useful for students to have experience in community involvement by implementing the knowledge gained in lectures.

At the end of the interview session, Rahmat hoped that implementing this service, especially during the socialization of fertilizer production, could reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and costs.

“By carrying out this activity, residents will be able to utilize their respective livestock’s manure to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and costs. In the long run, it is hoped that the residents will use all organic fertilizers 100%,” Rahmat hoped.
