FKIP – Tuesday (20/6/2023), the Community Service Student Creativity Week Team (PKM-PM) of the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta established the Reading and Arts Workshop Program (BANI) in Bocor, Buluspesantren, Kebumen, precisely in Kejayan RT 5 RW 1.

Chaired by Ridho Tri Haryanto, the team consists of 4 members. The four members are Arina Kurnia Putri, Ani Purwanti, Citra Cornelia, and Faizuna Istaqimi. They come from the Kebumen Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD). In implementing the program, they were guided by Dr. Moh Salimi, M.Pd.

The BANI Studio program aims to increase literacy and art in Boncor Village. In its implementation, the PKM-PM FKIP UNS Team collaborated with the Bocor Bermobil Community. This BANI Studio program is held twice a week from July to October.

The background for the BANI Studio Program is the low literacy level and the high use of gadgets among children and adolescents in Bocor Village. The increased use of gadgets among children and teenagers is the impact of Covid-19.

Initially, the use of devices was an online learning medium. However, this has become a habit that will continue into the post-pandemic period. As time goes by, this will impact the fading of artistic values in Bocor Village.

The BANI Studio Program consists of 3 programs. The first program is reading and storytelling, which includes reading together, storytelling, and making literacy trees, carried out with the children and youth of Bocor Village.

The second program is traditional arts and games. This art activity is carried out by inviting one of the artist figures, supported by art tools that support activities such as shawls, traditional musical instruments, wayang instruments, and others.

The third program is an art performance and a children’s competition. This third program includes playing stilts, clogs, sodor carts, tug of war, sack races, lawet dance, coloring competitions, dyeing batik, singing, memorizing folk songs, folklore drama performances, and book reading awards.

It is hoped that the BANI Studio Program will become a creative platform with positive programs and activities to increase children’s and youth’s interest in reading in Bocor Village. It is also hoped that this program will become a platform that can be used to introduce traditional culture and arts to children, divert the attention of children and adolescents from gadgets, and increase literacy while preserving traditional arts.

The BANI Sanggar Program will later be given to partners, namely the Bocor Bermobil Community. In this way, this program can run sustainably.
