FKIP – The Student Association of Javanese Language Education Study Program (HMP Wibawa), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta has finished holding the national seminar Babar Budaya and Parab Kawi #6. This seminar was held offline on Sunday (23/6/2024), located in Suhardi Hall, Building 3 FEB UNS.

This seminar was the closing event of a series of Babar Budaya and Parab Kawi #6 activities. The seminar was opened directly by the Head of HMP Wibawa, Raffi Rangga Kusworo Permana. In his speech, Raffi expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the implementation of the Babar Budaya and Parab Kawi #6 national seminar activities. In addition, he also expressed his hope for the organization of seminars and various competitions in a series of Babar Budaya and Parab Kawi #6 activities.

“The Babar Budaya and Parab Kawi #6 event is a forum for students or students who have talent in Javanese literature. In this day and age, there is rarely a competition that takes the theme of Java, so we as students of Javanese Language Education want to realize and develop its existence. Then, I hope this competition and seminar can open the minds of young people, especially Gen Z, who currently live with technological developments,” said Raffi.

The seminar with the theme “The Sublime Value of Javanese Wewarah” presented an art activist as the main speaker, Bambang Sugiarto. Bambang Sugiarto is an art activist who has experience in various art activities and is the owner of Sanggar Seni Kemasan and Rumah Kita Baluwarti. In the seminar, Bambang presented material related to Javanese culture as a noble value of Javanese wewarah.

Bambang said that as a Javanese, one must have a sense of pride in being Javanese. This is because as a Javanese, you must have ethics, a social life full of karma, and have traditions that are still preserved today. In Serat Kalatidha, Ranggawarsita has predicted the current life as a crazy age, so as a Javanese, must be able to behave so as not to be carried away from the noble values contained in Javanese wisdom.

“In today’s development, with easy access to social media. Gen Z today also has less behavior. They will look smart if they string words together in the media. However, when invited to talk face-to-face, many are what we call ‘plonga-plongo’. If we do not return to ‘adeg-adeg wewarah Jawa’ about moral ethics, these ethics will collapse or become extinct from life,” said Bambang.

Furthermore, Bambang also presented material related to the Javanese language which has an important role in educating future generations. Javanese language teaches about respect for elders or higher degrees through differences in language levels. Then, after finishing the presentation of the material, the seminar was closed with a question and answer session and joint documentation.
