FKIP – Academic, Research and Student Affairs Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a national webinar with the theme “Innovation and Creativity for Prospective Teachers on Tuesday (27/7/2021). This webinar activity was officially opened by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si.

The event was held online through Zoom Cloud Meetings and Youtube live broadcasts by presenting two speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Anik Ghufron, M.Pd., a Professor of the Department of Curriculum and Educational Technology, Faculty of Education (FIP) Yogyakarta State University (UNY) and Cucuk Wawan Budiyanto, ST., Ph.D. as Lecturer of Informatics and Computer Engineering Education (PTIK) FKIP UNS and Dr. Septi Yulisetiani, M.Pd. as a moderator.

The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Anik Ghufron, M.Pd. presented material on technological developments and strategies for realizing innovative learning. According to him, in the current era of industrial revolution 4.0, the way to realize innovative learning is to combine three elements, namely education, research, and service so that they can support each other.

“In the world of higher education, there are education, research, and service if possible it becomes one breath so that they integrate with each other, support each other,” he explained.

In addition, according to him, there are students who have innovative abilities or competencies, those who can master and survive in this current era, so that the strategy for realizing innovative learning does not lie in the product of innovative thinking itself, but also needs a learning model that can facilitate students to think innovatively.

“The method we expect is, of course, an innovative learning method, I mean it isn’t just a learning method as a product of innovative thinking, but more importantly creating a learning model that can facilitate students to be more innovative,” he explained.

In the next session, Cucuk Wawan Budiyanto, S.T., Ph.D. explain the material with the theme “Digital Transformation in Learning”. There are things to note that digital transformation is not just the use of power points or slide shows in learning, but more than that such as changing mindsets and student involvement.

“So, maybe all this time we got it wrong, we understand this is one thing even though it is something else. So, just using power points and slide shows has not entered the realm of digital transformation,” he said

Cucuk added that actually digital transformation is more encouraging for teachers to use technology as a tool only, content is the teacher’s prerogative. Thus, teachers are required to be confident in using and mastering technology despite the lagging environmental conditions.

“We as teachers must have confidence even though we are technologically lagging behind,” he added.

The webinar ended with the announcement of the winners of the previous national competition organized by the Academic, Research and Student Affairs of FKIP UNS. The nominations for the competition included a short film competition, an interactive learning media competition, a start-up competition, and a micro-teaching video competition.
