FKIP – Budi Utami, M.Pd. as a Science Education Lecturer at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta underwent the Doctoral Promotion Open Examination which was held on Thursday (29/7/2021) via Zoom Cloud Meeting. This open examination was chaired by the Deputy Dean of Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information FKIP UNS, Dr. Djono, M.Pd., as chairman of the board of examiners and accompanied by Prof. Drs. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D. as secretary for this event.
Meanwhile, those who act as examiners were Prof. Dr. Zuhdan Kun Prasetyo, M.Ed. from Yogyakarta State University (UNY) as examiners from outside UNS. Then, there was Prof. Dr. Widha Sunarno, M.Pd., and Prof. Dr. Suciati, M.Pd. as an examiner from UNS. The Doctoral Promotion Open Examination was also attended by Prof. Sulistyo Saputro, M.Sc., Ph.D. as a promoter and Dr. Mohammad Masykuri, M.Si. as co-promoter II.
This activity began with singing the anthem Indonesia Raya, opening by the chairman of the board of examiners, the promoter’s remarks, and introduction of the board of examiners. Then, the activity continued with the presentation of the results of the dissertation by Budi Utami, M.Pd.
In front of the board of examiners, promoters, and invited guests who were present, Budi presented the results of his dissertation research entitled “Development of a Learning Model Investigation Through Cooperative Problem Solving (ITCPS) to Improve Students’ Critical Thinking Skills in Chemical Balance Learning”.
In her presentation, Budi explained the reason for choosing this topic because it was based on previous research which stated that there have been obstacles in chemistry learning, namely the lack of opportunity for group discussion and lack of teamwork when solving problems.
“The background of this topic was chosen because chemistry learning based on previous research, chemistry learning encountered obstacles, namely the lack of opportunities for group discussions and teamwork in solving problems,” said Budi.
In addition, she explained that the purpose of this research was to produce learning methods that could answer these problems.
“Therefore, researchers have developed an ITCPS learning model in chemical equilibrium learning, as well as improving 21st-century skills, namely critical thinking skills,” Budi explained.
At the end of the event, Budi graduated with a very satisfactory predicate. She graduated as the 14th Doctor of Science Education Doctoral Program and became the 164th Doctor who was successfully graduated by FKIP UNS.
“From the results of the exam this morning, Mrs. Budi Utami, as a promovenda, was declared to have passed with a very satisfactory predicate,” said Dr. Djono as chairman of the board of examiners in this activity.
