FKIP – The Community Service Team of the Informatics and Computer Engineering Education (PTIK) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a workshop entitled “Training for Development of Augmented Reality Learning Media” on Monday-Tuesday (26-27 July 2021). Activities are carried out online through the Zoom Meeting application.

This learning media development training workshop, chaired by Dr. Agus Effendi, M.Pd. This workshop is a collaboration between the Center for Research and Community Service (P2M) PTIK FKIP UNS and the State Vocational High School (SMKN) 2 Karanganyar. The activity was opened with remarks from the chief executive, Dr. Agus Effendi, M.Pd. and Deputy Head of SMKN 2 Karanganyar, Drs. Soetanto, M.T.

This workshop activity presented two trainers, namely Endar Suprih Wahidayat, S.T., M.Eng. and Yusfia Hafid Aristyagama, S.T., M.T. During the two-day workshop, 60 participants took part in the process of introducing augmented reality (AR) learning media to the mechanism for using the Unity application as a medium for developing AR learning media.

The first trainer, Endar Suprih Wahidayat, S.T., M.Eng., explained the material regarding the introduction of AR learning media, starting from the definition, components, types of markers, development, and utilization.

“Augmented reality is almost the same as virtual reality. The difference is that AR inserts virtual objects into the real world, while VR is the opposite. VR actually inserts real objects into the virtual world,” explained Endar.

The second trainer, Yusfia Hafid Aristyagama, S.T., M.T., explained material about marker-based augmented reality using Unity 3D and the Vuforia SDK. On the first day, Yusfia guided the procedure for downloading and installing Unity to the stage of creating an account. On the second day, he guides how to use the Unity application and the Vuforia SDK in creating an AR media project. The Unity application used is Unity in 2019 so that it can be opened in the Unity series below.
“The 2019 Unity can be downloaded on Windows 8 and 10. We use the 2019 series so that it can be opened in the series below. If we use the 2021 series, it will only be able to be opened in that year’s series,” explained Yusfia.
