FKIP – The Student Association of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (HMP) Kebumen Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an Alumni Talk activity on Thursday (19/8/2021) online via Zoom Cloud Meeting.

This Alumni Talk has the theme “Have Ambition, Recognize Potential, Achieve Achievements”. The activity presented two speakers from PGSD Kebumen FKIP UNS alumni namely Ardiana Pangestika Konita, S.Pd., M.Ed. and Laras Mahmudah S.Pd. The Alumni Talk is one of a series of activities for Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) for the PGSD Study Program which is not only open to new students of PGSD Kebumen but was also open to the general public.

Entering the main event, Konita started the material presentation session by telling a flashback of her struggle during college. Starting from her anxiety to be consistent in PGSD or changing direction, until finally, she managed to get the opportunity to take a scholarship from the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) in Japan.

Konita shared a variety of new knowledge and insights regarding the stages of LPDP preparation and also the culture at Hiroshima University. Konita also talked about her persistence in pursuing further studies for her master’s degree

Even though she had failed to continue his master’s studies at Yogyakarta State University, she continued to prepare and improve her quality. The principle that she has adhered to all this time, that the opportunity will come when the person is ready, has actually led her to become an LPDP scholarship awardee. She also advised students not to waste the opportunity and not to blame others easily.

“We live in 2021, if you miss information, don’t blame anyone, but blame yourself,” she said.

The second speaker was Laras Mahmudah, one of the alumni of PGSD Kebumen. She is an alumnus who was active in the field of public speaking, especially debate competitions. She has the principle that during college, she must make the most of the opportunities that exist. This was the motivating factor for her to participate in debate competitions and other competitions with the excuse that she wanted to play for free outside the city, get new experiences, make new friends, and free pocket money.

During college, she received quite a number of awards as the winner of the competition until one time in 2018 she unexpectedly managed to become the 2nd winner in the Selection of Outstanding Student (Pilmapres) FKIP UNS representing the Kebumen PGSD Study Program. She has the principle that while the opportunity is there, it must be taken.

“Actually, there are quite a lot of Kebumen PGSD students who are ambitious in terms of academics, but for this kind of business, no one wants to take the opportunity. Because my opportunity to participate was quite large, so I finally followed it and thank God I was able to become the second winner, “ she explained.
