FKIP – Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Study Program (PG-PAUD) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a public lecture with the theme “Challenges and Prospects of PG-PAUD in the Future ” on Sunday (1/8/2021). This event was a series of Welcoming New Students (Samaru) of PG-PAUD UNS Study Program as an introduction to new students about the prospects and challenges after they graduate from college.
Head of Study Program PG-PAUD UNS, Dr. Siti Wahyuningsih, M.Pd. in her speech, advised to jointly develop the potential and competencies possessed, so as to be able to answer the challenges of an ever-changing era.

“We must take capital to answer this challenge. This capital is not limited to campus lectures, but develops it by seeking lots of support so that the competency needs that will answer the challenge are met,” he said.
Regarding the prospect of graduates, there are several opportunities that can be filled by PG-PAUD students, including Early Childhood School Teachers, editors, children’s book writers, and early childhood education curriculum managers. She hopes that through this public lecture, students can gain a broader view of their potential so that they can become individuals who can set an example for their students later.
“Hopefully, all PG-PAUD students become individuals who can become role models for their students, from head to toe to provide models or examples,” she added.
Curriculum Manager of the Directorate of Early Childhood Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) Jakarta, Eko Tri Rakhmawati, S.Pd., in this public lecture told her experience in developing early childhood education curriculum. In preparing programs or products, the ministry always pays attention to the readability aspect so that it can be used, read, and understood by early childhood throughout Indonesia. Likewise, theoretically, what was produced can be appropriate and can be accounted for.
“In making a product, we also invite practitioners, academics. So, in our bureaucracy, from the Directorate or Kemendikbudristek, when compiling a program, when compiling books or whatever, we definitely invite these elements,” he said.
Furthermore, she explained that there were several competencies that must be prepared by students, namely hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills, including the ability to understand early childhood content, mastery of computers, Microsoft Office tools, and foreign languages. Meanwhile, soft skills are in the form of work ethic, ability to solve problems creatively, work together, collaborate, communicate, and manage time.
