FKIP – The Geography Education Study Program Student Association (Himago) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an Online Discussion Room (Rudison) with the theme “Learning Loss VS Learning Game: Observing the Impact of Learning Remotely” via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (7/8/2021).
The event was hosted by Andian Hidayat as a student of Geography Education UNS by presenting two speakers, namely Abdul Haris Alamsah, M.Pd. as the Head of the Elementary Education Division of the Surakarta City Education Office and Singgih Prihadi, S.Pd., M.Pd. as a Geography Education Lecturer at UNS.
The activity began with a speech by Dr. Yasin Yusuf, S.Si., M.Sc. as the Head of the Study Program who expressed his hopes for Rudison’s event this time.
“This discussion is expected to be able to present a solution to the issue at hand, namely learning loss,” said Yasin.

The first speaker, Abdul Haris Alamsah, M.Pd. deliver material on distance learning which was the impact of the current situation.
“This distance learning is not an option, but a response to the current pandemic situation. Due to an appeal from the Ministry of Education, the thing that must be prioritized is health, “explained Abdul.
Abdul conveyed distance learning’s obstacles, namely teachers, students, parents, methods, facilities that were not ready, and the ability of teachers and students who had not mastered the technology. Responding to the obstacles in the field, Abdul conveyed the efforts made by the Surakarta City Government and the school.
Furthermore, Abdul also shared the steps that must be taken by educators in conducting distance learning which is divided into pre-learning, during learning, during learning with the Learning Management System (LMS), and after learning. Abdul also provided learning recommendations during the pandemic.

The second speaker, Singgih Prihadi, S.Pd., M.Pd. delivered material with the topic “Impact of Distance Learning: Learning Achievement and Student Character.”
“The ideal condition in the midst of a pandemic is that there is synergy between teachers, parents, students, and schools. Where schools provide facilities, teachers can use them, students enjoy participating, and parents don’t feel burdened by the existence of distance learning,” explained Singgih.
Singgih also conveyed facts on the ground related to distance learning, one of which was children who are prone to addiction to cellphones and social media. The solution offered is gamification in e-learning which is interesting and fun.
The event ended with a discussion session and post-test for each participant who took part in Rudison’s activities.
