FKIP – Student Creativity Program Team-Scientific Articles (PKM-AI) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) from the Bachelor Degree Study Program of Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) with team members Fanesia Debi, Maulana Danar Maaliki, and Aldi Dwi Saputra successfully passed the PKM incentive of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) for the 2021 fiscal year.
Supervised by Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, M. Hum. as a Lecturer of the PBSI FKIP UNS Study Program, Aldi and the team compiled a PKM-AI proposal with the title “Javanese Friday Sermon as an Effort to Maintain Indigenous Language Wisdom: Sociolinguistic Studies in Surakarta City”. Aldi explained that the selection of titles in the preparation of the PKM-AI proposal was motivated by the desire to study the Friday sermon from the sociolinguistic aspect in order to sharpen the sociocultural study of the community and its speakers.
“The reason we carry this title is to study the Friday sermon which is a discourse in the religious realm and has a formal, even sacred background. However, the sacredness is still influenced by the khatib as a speaker and the socio-cultural community. This is what makes the Friday sermon discourse interesting when studied from the sociolinguistic aspect because it can sharpen the sociocultural study of the community and its speakers. Both are clearly fulfilled by the context of speech which includes speech components,” Aldi explained.
The output they produce is a research result that is packaged in the form of Sinta indexed national journal articles. Aldi explained that there are three benefits that are expected from the outputs they produce. The first benefit is that it can produce an in-depth and comprehensive theory of the Javanese Friday sermon discourse based on the latest, real, and actual data. The second benefit is to develop theories of sociolinguistics and other sciences, such as anthropolinguistics, sociology of religion, and sociology of culture based on research findings. Meanwhile, the third benefit is to help preserve the Javanese language as local language wisdom in the city of Surakarta.
In the future, Aldi and his team hope that more UNS PKM-AI teams will pass the Kemendikbudristek PKM incentives.
“We hope that next year there will be more UNS PKM-AI teams that pass the Kemendikbudristek. If this year there are 13 teams from UNS that pass PKM-AI, we hope that next year more than 20 PKM-AI teams will pass the Kemendikbudristek PKM incentives,” concluded Aldi.
