Tingkatkan Wawasan Legislatif Mahasiswa, Dema FKIP UNS Gelar Sekolah Legislasi

Improve Student Legislative Insights, Dema FKIP UNS Held Legislative School

FKIP – Student Council (DEMA) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Legislation School with the title “Creating Talented Young Legislators and Pancasila Personality towards a Golden Indonesia 2045” on Saturday (7/8/2021). This activity was held online through a Zoom Meeting as an effort to make the nation’s generation, especially students, more politically literate and understand the legislative world.

The School of Legislation presented four speakers, they were Dr. H. Mardani Ali Sera as a member of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) from the Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) faction and Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Khoirunnisa Nur Agistyati, S.Sos., M.I.P. as Executive Director of the Association for Elections and Democracy, Azka Abdi Amruroni as Secretary-General of the Independent Election Awareness Committee and Masters in Government Politics at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and Ikananda Januar Rizaldi as Leader I of the UGM Student Consultative Assembly (MPM). This event was moderated by Salsabiilla Faradikha Fakhrunnisa and Fu’ad Aminullah.

This activity was opened by Dr. Septi Yulisetiani, M.Pd. as the Head of the UNS FKIP Student Achievement Unit representing the Deputy Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKIP UNS.

There were several materials presented in this forum, including the presentation of the first material on the reflection of Indonesian democracy which was delivered by Khoirunnisa Nur Agistyati, S.Sos., M.I.P. In her presentation, she provided a reflection of the implementation of democracy in Indonesia through the results of the Global State of Democracy index released last June 2021 which showed that Indonesia in the index was included in the category of low democratic performance.

“Actually, one of the reasons why Indonesia is in a low category is the slow performance of the KPK for the past two years in eradicating corruption. On the other hand, post-election citizen participation in the electoral process is also still relatively low,” she explained.

The second presentation of the material was given by Azka Abdi Amrurobi. He discussed topics that were still related to the previous material, the younger generation and political participation. He affirmed Bertolt Brecht’s view that the worst blindness is political illiteracy.

“I think the younger generation in Indonesia should not be blind and shy from politics, criticize the government and create innovative movements even though the conditions for democracy are not yet fully said to be good,” he said.

Furthermore, the third session of the material presentation was delivered by Ikananda Januar related to the dynamics of the campus legislature represented by the Student Representative Council (DPM) or DEMA which has three main objectives, namely legislation, aspirations, and supervision.

The last presentation of the material was delivered by Dr. H. Mardani Ali Sera who discussed how to place citizens’ perspectives on Indonesian legislation towards 2045. The event ended with a question and answer session and a group photo.
