FKIP – Sumber Village is one of the villages located in Dukun District, Magelang Regency. The area has an attractive beauty and cultural diversity of local arts that is quite interesting. This is because it is often used as a destination for live-in activities for urban residents, especially students from Magelang, Jakarta, and other areas. This is the background for students who are carrying out Real Work Lectures (KKN) at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta to develop education-based tourism with the aim of reviving the economy of local residents.
“So, live-in is a kind of overnight activity there for urban children, they will stay in the houses of local residents with the aim of knowing the living conditions in the countryside. There, they will carry out cultural learning activities such as dancing, karawitan, farming, learning about making typical snacks such as pothil, and seeing the making of stone crafts called cobek. Due to the pandemic, this activity was canceled. However, maybe later it can still be made a kind of live-in without staying overnight and still according to health protocols, “explained Annida as the deputy coordinator of KKN.
Meanwhile, creative ideas raised by students include mapping tourism and artistic potential through websites, managing and developing educational tourism, and marketing source village educational tours through social media. Currently, KKN students were collaborating with local youth organizations in making profile videos to introduce the wider community to the new educational tourism program. They also plan to add tourist facilities that can be rented, such as ATVs, archery, and tents for camping.
The KKN student activity received support from Muhadi, one of the pioneers of local arts.
“If UNS friends will develop this educational tour, I will support it,” said Muhadi as the Head of Singo Dilogo’s Two Arts.
Singo Dilogo was founded in 1967 and was pioneered by Suhadi, Muhadi’s older brother. This art is an acculturation of cultures in other areas that are created into beautiful art. Singo Dilogo performances are well known by the public and have been performed in Jogja, Boyolali, Temanggung, Wonosobo, Purworejo, and surrounding areas. Around 1997, this art participated in the Reog Ponorogo National Festival competition and won 2nd place in the Warok Lepas Dance.
The existence of the UNS KKN program is expected to be able to raise the potential of education-based tourism, visitors will not only enjoy the beautiful scenery and feel the atmosphere on the slopes of Mount Merapi, but can gain knowledge while preserving Indonesian culture. With this digital marketing, it is also hoped that it will be able to penetrate the wider community to get to know educational tourism in Sumber Village.
