FKIP – The Natural Sciences Education Study Program of the Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held the second Science Education Research webinar with the title “Designing Research Proposals” on Saturday (7/8/2021) via the Zoom Meeting application.

Moderated by Dr. paed. Nurma Yunita Indriyanti, S.Pd. M.Si. M.Sc., this webinar presented two speakers, namely Murni Ramli S.P., M.Sc., Ed.D. and Dr. Budi Utami, M.Pd. The webinar was divided into several sessions, namely a brief presentation session, presentation of material from the speakers, and question answer session.

A brief presentation session was delivered by Dr. Nurma as moderator. Meanwhile, the brief presentation presented in this webinar was general information from the thesis, starting from the weight of the Semester Credit Unit (SKS), main supervisor and assistant, writing guidelines, drafting flow, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) preparation, to the publication process.

The activity was continued with a material presentation session from the first speaker, namely Dr. Budi Utami, M.Pd. She presented material with the theme “Educational Research Methodology”. At the end of her presentation, she also gave directions so that students don’t give up easily when they encounter obstacles in writing their thesis.

“Hopefully, those of you who are about to start writing your thesis will not be discouraged when you find difficult. This will not happen if you are willing to work hard, read diligently, and actively consult with your supervisor. Do not let when you encounter difficulties, you stop preparation of the thesis. If you encounter difficulties and are embarrassed to consult with the lecturer, please discuss with your friends. Don’t be shy about asking for fear of being considered stupid, instead actively asking questions shows a process,” said Utami.

The activity was continued with a presentation session from the second speaker, namely Murni Ramli S.P., M.Sc., Ed.D. She explained the material on “Quaitative Research Sundries”. She hoped in this presentation, students who attend this webinar will get an idea of which research will be used for their thesis later.

“Hopefully, this material can make college students remember the material they have studied, specifically for qualitative ones. Hopefully, you can get an idea of which research should be done for thesis research later. Hopefully today’s explanation will not make you confused, ” she said.

The webinar activity ended with a question and answer session. Before the question and answer session started, there was additional material from Febriani Sarwendah Asri Nugraheni, M.Pd. regarding the “Similarity Test in Thesis”, starting from the definition, its relationship with the thesis, how to minimize similarities, to things to avoid in the preparation of the thesis.
