FKIP – Master Program in Mathematics Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held the International Conference of Mathematics and Mathematics Education (I-CMME) on Wednesday (25/8/2021). This activity was broadcast live via Zoom Meeting and the UNS Mathematics Education Masters Youtube channel.
I-CMME is an international conference held every year by inviting various researchers, academics, educators, practitioners, government agencies, and consultants from around the world to share insights, perspectives, and the latest research trends in mathematics education.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Sajidan, M.Si. said that the Covid-19 pandemic has infected various sectors in life, including education, most of the people involved in it.
“Many fundamentals in the process in schools and colleges have suddenly changed in response to the pandemic and government policies to stop the spread of this virus,” he said.

Meanwhile, the speakers at this conference were Prof. Dr. Zulkardi, M.I. Kom., M.Sc. (Professor of the Mathematics Education University of Sriwijaya Indonesia), Assoc Prof. Dr. Mazlini Adnan (Department of Mathematics Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris Malaysia), Prof. Werner Olivier (Govan Mbeki Mathematics Development Center Nelson Mandela University South Africa), Dr. Imam Sujadi, M.Si. (Sebelas Maret University Indonesia), and Dr. Kristóf Fenyvesi (Finnish Institute for Educational Research University of Jyväskylä Finland). This event appointed Salma Fauzia as the host.
The activity which was attended by around 500 participants from Zoom and Youtube from various institutions in the world raised the theme “Integration of STEAM-based Innovation Learning in Mathematics and Mathematics Education During Pandemic”.
Prof. Sajidan hopes that the contribution of each participant in this activity will be beneficial for the development of science in the field of mathematics education which will later be used for higher education and society as a whole.
“Therefore, today the dedication is in the form of a scientific forum to share and discuss several problems related to mathematics and mathematics education, especially in STEAM-based innovative learning,” explained Prof. Sajidan.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. STEAM is an integrated learning approach that encourages students to think broadly about problems in the world by using interrelated science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, so that the result is the formation of students who dare to take risks but with careful consideration, shape learning experiences, persistent in finding solutions to existing problems, actively collaborating, and working through the creative process.
The realization of this activity was inseparable from the vision and mission of UNS, which is committed to contributing to sustainable development, not only at the national level but also at the regional and international levels.
“As we are fully aware in today’s globalized world, the contribution of universities must be promoted to a wider spectrum,” said Prof. Sajidan.
At this conference, the committee has received around 122 abstracts consisting of 25 mathematics articles and 97 mathematics education articles with four countries that have registered, namely the United States, Malaysia, Finland, and Indonesia.
