FKIP – Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program Students (PBSI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta on behalf of Aji Santoso won 2nd place in the National Level Short Story Creation in the Independent Literature Competition Volume 1.0 organized by the Student Press Institute (LPM) Reference Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang.

The competition, which was held in commemoration of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, consisted of two competitions, namely poetry competition and short story competition. The competition is open to the public from August 11 to 20, 2021 attended by more than 40 online participants.

With the provision of the theme “Independence”, Aji carries a short story entitled “Farmers’ Independence”. Having a forward plot, the short story tells about the struggle for independence of a rice farmer who was forcibly employed by the Dutch.

This short story tells the story of the struggle for independence of a rice farmer who was forcibly employed by the Dutch to become a coffee plantation worker. When the Japanese came, the farmer ran away and returned to farming in his hometown. Unfortunately, during harvest time, the Japanese took their crops. In the end, independence for farmers was announced. they are free to plant whatever to the will of their heart,” said Aji.

Aji hopes that his short stories can fulfill the elements of entertainment and benefit the community. That is, the short stories he wrote can be read by the public to provide entertainment and convey the values ​​of struggle to them. He also hopes that the short story can motivate others to work through writing. According to him, the more people who are literate, especially in reading and writing, the literacy level in Indonesia will increase.

“I hope my short story fulfills the elements of a good short story, namely entertainment and usefulness. That is, in addition to entertaining people when read, this short story can also convey the values ​​of struggle to them. I also hope that other people can be motivated to work so that more people who are literate read and write. Thus, the literacy rate in Indonesia can increase, “said Aji.
