FKIP – Quality Assurance Unit (UPM) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a virtual workshop “Strategy for Study Programs and UPM towards International Accreditation” on Friday (24/9/2021). The activity was moderated by Ribut Purwaningrum, S.Pd., M.Pd. presented national speakers from Universitas Airlangga, Helmy Yusuf, S.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., Apt.
This activity was held in preparation for the application for international accreditation of study programs. The activity was opened by Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si. as the Dean of FKIP UNS. In his speech, he said that this year six study programs are ready for international accreditation, the faculty always encourages other study programs to immediately prepare for international accreditation. According to him, to apply for international accreditation, the study program must have obtained accreditation A from BAN-PT.

Furthermore, the presentation of the material by the resource person, Helmy Yusuf. He explained the reasons for the importance of the study program carrying out international accreditation, namely as a quality culture of the institution, increasing reputation/branding, and also being a mark of honor. In its implementation, he also emphasized the responsibilities and challenges of implementing international accreditation which include funding, time, the resistance of education personnel, and increasing the workload for staff.
Helmy also explained the steps for applying for international accreditation which consisted of 8 steps. “Furthermore, in the accreditation process, there are steps that need to be taken, such as 1) the institution decides to accredit, 2) decides the accreditation body to go to, 3) contact the accreditation body, 4) learn the accreditation standards/criteria, 5) do it. self-evaluation (based on GAP analysis), 6) write and document procedures that meet the standards, 7) hold intensive meetings with all staff regarding accreditation, 8) complete the existing deficiencies,” he explained.

Helmy provides important notes in determining and preparing for the accreditation process which includes choosing the best time, ingenuity in choosing the study program to be submitted for international accreditation, learning about procedures and criteria, mapping learning outcomes, making curriculum documents, appointing the head of the accreditation process, and agreeing on mechanisms in the process. accreditation.
In addition, according to him, the determination of verifiers and effective communication with the industrial world are also important things in applying for accreditation. “It is also important to carry out intensive communication, such as involving the industrial world (stakeholders). The structure and formation of the team are also important to become a consultant in this accreditation process. Not only that, make a work plan and study the standards of the institution we are aiming for,” concluded Helmy.
