FKIP –The Art of The Teaching Webinar organized by the Sentra Islamic Activities (SKI) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) brought the material “The Role of Youth in Advancing the Nation’s Education.” The activity, which was held on Sunday (19/9/2021), presented a national resource person, namely the Head of the Public Relations and Institutional Division of PP Persatuan Islam, Ust. T. Anwar Bachtiar.

The activity, which was moderated by the alumnus of FKIP UNS ICT Education, Mohamad Darril Hermawan, began with an explanation of the role of youth based on historical reviews by Ust. Anwar

“The role of youth in the past (e.g. Jong Jawa) was quite visible. When the Indonesian people were in a situation of colonization, youth played a pioneering role in education, such as establishing schools, training centers, and organizations,” said Ust. Anwar.

Then, St. T. Anwar Bachtiar explained the reason why youth needs to take a role in advancing education. This is because youth are given advantages such as excellent health, free time, and not much social responsibility.

“Why should the youth take the role? First, youth have excellent health. Young age is certainly better for health than old age. Second, young people have a lot of free time. Third, the responsibilities of youth are not yet many. Youth have not been burdened with social responsibilities in society, have not been entrusted with big things in society. So this is the advantage of youth that the older generation does not have,” continued Ust. Anwar.

The activity continued with a question and answer session. There is one term with three questionnaires. In this session, Mr. Anwar added the importance of cultivating a culture of science in educating. Educators and parents need to coordinate in building a culture of knowledge, directing children towards goodness, and fostering children’s enthusiasm. He also emphasized that the importance of cultivating a culture of knowledge will increase the spirit of seeking knowledge so that there will be more alternatives and ways to achieve goodness.
