FKIP – Center for Islamic Activities (SKI) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) held a National Webinar The Art of Teaching with the theme “Save the future with great Education.” This activity was held online on Saturday-Sunday (18-19/9/2021) by presenting a national speaker, Ust. Salim A. Fillah.
The purpose of this activity is to raise awareness to students (especially FKIP students as prospective educators) about the importance of character education to create a good national character.
“The purpose of this event is so that (students) can increase their knowledge about Islamic education and character education to grow the nation’s character. The hope is that this event can be a place for learning together and the process of becoming a better person so that they can apply it in their daily lives,” explained Pawit Riatmo, the chairman of the committee for this webinar.

The activity was continued with a material presentation by Ust. Salim A. Fillah. He delivered material about the role of Islamic education in building character. He emphasized that it is important to know the qualifications and how to grow excellent educators.
“Before talking about educational methods or educational curricula, it is very important to discuss the qualifications, integrity, character, quality, and credibility of educators (Mualim). In the current situation, the priority when choosing a place to study is not the size of the place (building) or the method used, but the qualifications of the teacher or educator,” he explained.
Ust. Salim who is also the author of In the Embrace of Ukhuwah also explains that after the character of the educator. There is the use of the Qur’an, the Sunnah in his method, good intentions (purified his intentions), and the learning process needs to strengthen good characters.
“To be able to make education up to character, the quality of the prophet must be good because it is related to educational outcomes. The tarbiyah process must be able to erase the bad and strengthen the good, cultivate an empathetic way of thinking, the method of the Qur’an, sunnah, books, and strengthen intentions,” continued Ust. Salim.
The activity continued with a question and answer session, a closing statement of the speaker, and a group photo.
“The character given to us can be fostered towards goodness, the emphasis is on the integrity of the teacher, the reference is to the Al-Quran as the source, and don’t forget to do tazkiyah (purification) so that the goodness is solid and able to ward off evil. In this way, we are able to give birth to a superior generation, such as a soft character like Abu Bakr, if hard like Umar bin Khatab, if humorous like Ali bin Abi Talib, and if shy like Uthman bin Affan,” concluded Ust. Salim.
