FKIP – Doctoral Degree of Natural Sciences Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an online Visiting Professor Program on Thursday (30/09/2021) through the Zoom Meeting application.

This activity was attended by 198 participants. The participants in this activity are students from various levels of study, ranging from Bachelor (S-1), Masters (S-2), to Doctoral (S-3) programs. This activity is an option in expanding knowledge and building academic networks.

In his speech, Prof. Sulistyo Saputro, M.Sc., Ph.D. as the Head of the study Program, S-3 Science EducationFKIP UNS Surakarta, revealed that students need an in-depth understanding of research instruments.

“Although students have received courses on basic research methods, a deeper understanding of research instruments is needed. This is because the instrument is a decisive aspect in revealing the quality of the research itself,” said Prof. Sulistyo.

In addition, Prof. Sulistyo also revealed that the study Program S-3 Science EducationFKIP UNS Surakarta is committed to continuously improving the quality of the study program through various positive activities.

“The S-3 Science Education Study Program FKIP UNS Surakarta has a commitment to continuously improve its quality through various activities, one of which is through the Visiting Professor activity which is held every year. Not only that, but we also often hold various other seminar activities. There will be 3 other activities in October 2021,” said Prof. Sulistyo.

The activity continued with the presentation of the material. Those who act as presenters of the material in this activity are Prof. Heri Retnawati, M.Pd. He is a Professor of Educational Evaluation Specialist from Yogyakarta State University (UNY).

In his presentation, Prof. Heri shared the main points of preparing research instruments. In addition, he also provides an overview of the differences between quantitative and qualitative research. He explained the importance of the characteristics between the two types of research to make it easier to identify them.

“The characteristics between these two types of research must also be discussed in-depth and in detail because they each have their characteristics. By understanding their characteristics, it will be easier to determine the peculiarities of each type of research,” explained Prof. Harry.
