FKIP – The Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program (PTM) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Scientific Writing Workshop on Saturday (2/10/2021). This activity presented two speakers from UNS students, the 1st winner of the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) of the Indonesian Energy Innovation Competition (SINERGI), Mohamad Abror and the winner of the Gold Medal at Scientific Writing Competition at Edutainer Nusantara Fair_ Indonesia, Putri Indah Nurani.

This activity carried the theme “The Spirit of Cultivating Creativity, Succeeding in Writing”. This activity was intended to prepare PTM and UNS students so that they can improve their writing skills, especially in writing and preparing the Student Creativity Program (PKM). Dr. Yuyun Estriyanto hopes that with this activity, more students will excel.

“This year, PTM Study Program students successfully passed PIMNAS 34 at USU, Medan. I hope that with this activity, more students can excel, especially in the field of PKM,” explained the Head of the PTM S-1 Study Program (Kaprodi), Dr. Yuyun.

The activity continued with a material presentation by Mohamad Abror. Abror started the presentation of the material by conveying tips in writing.

“When writing it is very important to do this, namely intention and motivation, find your passion, learn, build a strong team, and find the right mentor,” Abror explained.

Abror continued, it is important in scientific writing or essays to find passion in a particular field. For example, writing scientific papers, there are various fields like education, health, economy, energy, environment, and others. Then, find the field that best suits each of them.

Next, the presentation of the material by the second speaker, Putri Indah Nurani. Putri delivered material about tips and tricks for participating in LKTIN. There are ten tips and tricks in participating in the scientific writing competition.

“Starting from ‘why’ or why to join the competition, look for ideas, find suitable competitions, find friends, execution, internal review, external review with lecturers or experts, revisions are sorted by reviewer, submit, and pray also sacrifice,” explained Putri .

Putri added, a good idea should be executed, not just saved. In execution, determine agreement on ideas with teammates, find suitable mentors, and share tasks with team members. Question and answer activities and discussions were carried out after the speaker’s session. The activity ended with a group photo with the presenters.
