FKIP – PAUD Teacher Education Study Program (PG PAUD) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar with the theme “Father’s Role Really Affects Children’s Growth and Development” on Sunday (10/10) /2021). This webinar, which was held through the Zoom Meeting, was a humanitarian project by PAUD PG students who received the UNS Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) grant in 2021.
The UNS MBKM 2021 Grant Humanitarian Project is an activity in order to assist the community in overcoming disasters in social conditions and other humanitarian programs. Meanwhile, the focus on this humanitarian project is nurturing the role of fathers in the process of reducing the number 3 most fatherless country in the world.
In her presentation, Andriani Rahma Pudyaningtyas, M.A. as a resource person as well as a PG PAUD UNS Lecturer said that parenting or child care does not just exist but is carried out together for the development of children.
“Parenting is joint parenting between father and mother, it is the best parenting because children will see the femininity of the mother and the masculinity of the father,” he said.
She added that there are small things that fathers can do in raising children, namely taking time to play, listening to complaints, discussing, answering questions, and doing outdoor activities such as gardening and playing soccer. This is done with the aim that the child feels cared for, thereby increasing the sense of pleasure, happiness, optimism, and passion for the child’s life in its growth.

Furthermore, there are several benefits of father involvement in parenting, especially for children such as good academic and economic achievements, success in career, best educational attainment, psychological well-being, minimizing behavioral problems in children, and positive social relationships.
“Because the attention given by the father can train the child well, the father can show the figure of a teacher at home how to teach the child step by step when the child has difficulties,” he explained.
Not only for children, father involvement in parenting also has benefits for fathers, namely feeling more satisfied in life, able to understand themselves and empathize better, have better control, warmer and closer family relationships, influence work, and marital happiness.
“When you decide to get married later, you have to be aware that your role will increase not only as a husband but also a father and later fathers must be fully involved in all parenting processes,” said Andriani at the end of the presentation.
