FKIP – Student Association for Extraordinary Education Study Program Faculty Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta commemorates International Disability Day by holding the HDI Festival on Friday (4/12/2021). Activities are carried out online through Zoom Cloud Meetings and YouTube live streaming.

The activity was opened with remarks from Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si. as the Dean of FKIP UNS. In his speech, Mardiyana conveyed the role of PLB students to make people aware of people with special needs in the community.

“We should have concern for people who need special needs. This activity is very good because PLB students are aware, not only to the community but more broadly,” said Mardiyana in his speech.

Gebyar HDI this time presented a sign language interpreter and invited delegates from PLB student associations throughout Indonesia. The theme carried is “Give Love, Spread Awareness”. After it was officially opened, the activity continued with the symbolic handing over of laptops and credit assistance to UNS disabled students from the LPPM UNS Disability Study Center (PSD).

The main activity was guided by Alexandrin Farah Diba as moderator. The first speaker, Erma Kumala Sari, S.Psi., a psychologist who is a UNS Special Education lecturer. Erma delivered the material with the title “Being an Extraordinary Parent for a Special Child”.

“These special children are heaven placed in the desert. So, with all their limitations, they are presented on earth with a very noble purpose,” said Erma, starting the presentation.

The second speaker, Drs. Setia Adi Purwanta, M.Pd. who is the Director of Dria Manunggal Yogyakarta and the Chair of the Committee for the Protection and Fulfillment of the Rights of People with Disabilities in DIY. Setia presented the material with the title “Learning Independence to Fulfill the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”. Faithful started the material by quoting the opinion of one of the education leaders.

“We can be free in learning if we are in an inclusive environment because learning is freedom. According to Ki Hajar, learning is liberating,” explained Setia.

Towards the end of the event, participants were invited to ask questions in the question and answer session and the activity ended with the announcement of the 2021 UNS International Disability Day competition.
