FKIP – Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta Students succeeded in making achievements in the Indonesia International Applied Science Project Olympiad, namely obtaining an international gold medal and also a special award. The students who won this achievement were Farah Yuki Prasetyawati (Physics Education/2018), Rizal Galih Pradana (Psychology/2018), Afifah Harwanti (Physics Education/2018), Pradana Ricardo (Indonesian Literature/2019), and Stefani Widyaningrum ( Electrical Engineering/2019).
The activity, which was organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) in collaboration with the ITS Actuarial Department, was attended by 410 participants from 14 countries. This activity is held to accommodate the ideas and innovations of young researchers. Rizal Galih Pradana, a member of this team, said that this activity lasted quite a long time, including registration, file collection, prototype preparation, and presentation in front of the jury, which took place on Saturday – Wednesday (11-15/12/2021).
Rizal also said that in this event his team brought a product called ABIRES, which is a tool intended to relieve stress for road users at traffic lights.
“The product we bring is called ABIRES, which is a stress reliever device for road users at red lights. This product will also introduce various traditional music as a form of cultural preservation. Products equipped with cooling systems are applied on highways around red lights. We chose to optimize sunlight as an energy source,” explained Rizal in an interview with the fkip.uns.ac.id team.
Rizal added that the reason for carrying out the idea was related to the high-stress level of road users.
“The reason for carrying out the idea is because the high stress and fatigue level of road users can trigger various kinds of dangers due to unfocused driving. Music and coolers can be used to provide a sense of relaxation for the riders,” continued Rizal.
Rizal also conveyed his impression of winning this competition.
“I didn’t expect it because I only had one presentation practice. Prayers and trust with the team,” said, Rizal.
At the end of the interview, Rizal expressed his hopes for the implementation of his team’s ideas.
“Hopefully, there will be the implementation of ABIRES or innovation products in the field of technology that can collaborate with many other fields of science in a sustainable manner,” concluded Rizal.
