FKIP – Center for Islamic Activities (SKI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) ) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a big class #3 with the theme “Civil Millennials in Society”. This activity, which was presented by Alif Faishal Farras, General Chairperson of JN UKMI UNS 2020, was held online through a Zoom Meeting on Saturday (12/18/2021).

This big class is a series of events of The Adventure of Islamic Youth (THE ARMY) #8 to introduce, understand, and develop UNS students in da’wah. There are several agendas of activities in it, namely studies, small classes, large classes, discussions, and graduations.

In his presentation, Alif said that civil society is a society that can use all the potential that exists for mutual prosperity. The potential is in the form of all activities that are independent and developed by the culture, customs, and religion in the community.

“Civil society is a community association that has independence in every activity and the community can develop themselves according to their respective cultures, customs, and religions to achieve the common good,” he said.

Alif added that the potential is not talking about introverts and extroverts, but the potential is about how to use the abilities you have wisely.

“Actually, with the existing potential it can be a profitable potential or it can be a detrimental potential, depending on how we respond to ourselves,” he added.

According to him, Indonesian society is currently dominated by Gen Z, the generation that will bring change as a superior nation. Moreover, Generation Z has the characteristics of being all-digital, ambitious, all-instant, like freedom, being confident, independent, needs recognition, and details.

“Digital and instant are attached to us, while the rest will be conditional according to each of our characters,” he explained.

Furthermore, Alif explained how the role of youth as the current generation in building a civil society. As it is known that youth have roles as agents of change, social control, moral reinforcement, guardian of values, and successors of the nation.

“When we realize that we have a role, we will walk in one direction in the same direction, towards a beautiful civilization, especially civil civilization of superior society as long as we use these roles well,” he said.

At the end of the presentation, Alif explained that doing positive and useful things for others, it will create a civil society in Indonesia.

“Use all the potential that exists within us for all things that are positive, the main thing is to be useful for others, this is important for us to understand, don’t let us have potential but we use it to harm others,” he said.
