FKIP – Wednesday (3/2/2022), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University Surakarta (UNS) in this case the S1 Education Study Program Extraordinary (PLB) and Special Education Masters Program (PLB) in collaboration with the Center for Diffability Studies (PSD) Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta held a Training for Mentoring Students with Disabilities at Sebelas Maret University. The activity took place in the Hall of Building F FKIP UNS and was attended by student volunteer participants from various faculties at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta.

Prof. Dr. Munawir Yusuf, M.Sc., as the Head of PSDM LPPM UNS in his speech explained that to create an inclusive campus a shared role was needed, “this is our collective duty to meet the needs of accessibility and inclusiveness,” explained Prof. Munawir.

Next Prof. Munawir explained that UNS needed volunteers to assist students with disabilities because the UNS Chancellor’s policy of providing opportunities for new students with disabilities through the special SPMB route was very well responded to by the community. In these three years, 2019, 2020, and 2021, there are 34 students with disabilities spread across various faculties at UNS. So this mentoring activity is very much needed and becomes a form of our attention to students with disabilities.

On the next occasion Dr. Mardiyana, M.Sc., as the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, in his speech explained that the faculties and universities support and appreciate this activity.

“We from the faculty are very supportive, welcome, and appreciate this collaborative activity because it is a form of policy and attention from faculties and universities for students with disabilities,” explained Dr. Mardiyana

Besides that, the Dean of FKIP UNS Dr, Mardiyana also emphasized that for now when there is international accreditation, policies and facilities for students with disabilities are often asked, so this also needs to be considered. In the future, we will continue to improve and provide the best facilities for students with disabilities in the faculty.

Dean of FKIP UNS Dr. Mardiyana, M.Sc., also hopes that the volunteers for assisting students with disabilities can get certificates and we also plan that faculties and universities will be able to rank children with special needs/disabilities both at the local government level and state universities. , so that this can be a form of more attention for children and students with special needs/disabilities.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, MS as the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs in his speech explained that he supports and provides facilities for volunteers and students with disabilities.

“We support these activities and are ready to provide facilities for students such as laptops and others,” explained Prof. Ahmad Yunus.

Next Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, MS who as the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs officially opened the UNS Student Assistance Training with Disabilities.
