FKIP – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta collaborated with Western Sydney University (WSU) on Friday (25/3/2022). This cooperation agreement was carried out online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc. as the Deputy Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs delivered his remarks and comments regarding the collaboration between FKIP UNS and Western Sydney University.

The activity continued with remarks from Michele Simons after being invited by Lynde Tan as moderator. In her speech, Michele expressed her gratitude for the good welcome from FKIP UNS.

“Thank you for the kind welcome. For us, cooperating with other parties is important. Not only with several students, faculties, but also universities, both nationally and internationally because every young person has the right to get the best education,” said Michele.

Furthermore, on this occasion, Associate Professor Chwee Beng Lee as Associate Dean – Higher Degree Research (HDR) presented a material entitled “Higher Degree Research (HDR) in WSU”.

Chwee Beng Lee said that at WSU there are four master’s programs, namely Master of Research, Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). On this occasion, Chwee Beng Lee explained what the participants got to support HDR.

“Things that support HDR participants include workshops, seminars, forums, and conferences. Both HDR groups. Third, is the HDR training program. Fourth, is funding support. Fifth, office. Sixth, academic writing guidance,” explained Chwee Beng Lee.

The second presentation was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Christine Johnston as Associate Dean, International. He delivered a material entitled “Why Western is the Place To Be!”. In his presentation, he revealed that WSU is included in the best 2% of universities in the world.

The next presentation was delivered by Kathryn Holmes with the material entitled “Centre for Educational Research”. Then followed by a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Christine Johnston with the material entitled “Research on Inclusive Education”.

Then, the presentation was delivered by Associate Professor Loshini Naidoo with the material “Social Justice, Equity, and Teacher Education”. Furthermore, Nurwanto, an alumnus of UNS who is currently a Ph.D. student, School of Education at WSU, delivered the material with the title “Being a Ph.D. Student at Western”.

After the presentation was made, the UNS FKIP and WSU conveyed the collaboration that was carried out. The first is the Ph.D. scholarship program. (education) for four full years. Second, higher education participation in academic talks is organized by CER FKIP UNS. Third, short-term teacher education training programs mutually agreed upon in writing by the two institutions, such as a one-week on-campus professional development course for UNS academics at WSU.
