FKIP – The Office Accounting Education Study Program Student Association (Himadistra) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Public Speaking Training Webinar on Sunday (17/4/2022). Themed “Presentation and Public Speaking for Job Speaker”, the webinar was held online through the Zoom Meeting application.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc. as the Deputy Dean of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKIP UNS explained that public speaking training to prepare oneself in the world of work can support one of the main performance indicators (IKU). The indicator is the number of graduate students who are absorbed in the industrial world.

“We all know that now for evaluating performance in higher education, one of the indicators is the achievement of the main performance indicators or KPI. There are eight main performance indicators used to measure higher education performance. One indicator is how many students who graduate are already working. So, within 6 months after graduating, you can be absorbed in the industrial world and the wages are above the UMR. Therefore, this activity supports the achievement of IKU,” explained Prof. good luck.

This webinar presents one resource person, namely Nenden Siti Rochmah. He is the Millennial Adjutant to the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil in 2021. In addition, he is also the Brand Ambassador of Zoya and Emina. In his presentation, he explained the material entitled “Public Speaking”. He explained the material ranging from understanding, urgency, and basics, to attitudes in public speaking.

On that occasion, Nenden explained 3 important points of public speaking. According to him, through public speaking, we can get many positive benefits.

“Why is public speaking important? Because through public speaking we can get so many positive benefits, including making it easier in the career world. Public speaking can also expand relationships or networking because we learn how to communicate well and we can speak well in public which will make other people judge us more. In addition, public speaking can also increase self-confidence, “explained Nenden.

At the end of the presentation, Nenden also explained 3 attitudes that must be applied in doing public speaking. The three attitudes are friendly and smiling, not offending others, and being willing to accept criticism.

“Attitude is also an important thing to have before doing public speaking. Three attitudes must be applied in doing public speaking, namely being friendly and smiling a lot, not offending other people’s feelings, and being willing to accept criticism,” concluded Neden.

The activity ended with a question and answer session and documentation.
