FKIP – The Master’s Program (S-2) English Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar on writing and publication in language education in 4 sessions over 4 weeks. Themed “Writing for Publication in Language Education: Practical Advice for Early-Career Researchers”, the activity was held online through the Zoom Meeting application.

This activity which aims to inspire and encourage lecturers and students to be productive in producing publications with international reputable journals presents 1 resource person. The resource persons are Prof. Ju Seong Lee. He is a research-focused professor at the Education University of Hong Kong.

The webinar and publication assistance for session 1 will be held on Saturday (12/3/2022). Moderated by Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati, M.Pd. as a Lecturer of the Master’s Degree Program in English Education FKIP UNS, Prof. Lee introduced the participants to the early tricks of writing by emphasizing the importance of reason for writing and publishing. In addition, he also explained the material regarding the regulations in publication as well as the things expected by the editors and reviewers of the journal.

Then session 2 was held on Saturday (19/3/2022) with the moderator Kristian Adi Putra, Ph.D. as a Lecturer of the Master’s Degree Program in English Education and Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University. On this occasion, Prof. Lee explained the material about writing articles using the IMRaD format, starting from how to write the introduction, methods, results, and discussions.

Next, session 3 was held on Saturday (26/3/2022) and was guided again by Kristian Adi Putra, Ph.D. In this session, Prof. Lee explained further tips that can be done in writing articles using the IMRaD format, starting from the preparation of titles, abstracts, keywords, literature reviews, conclusions, and references.

The last session in this activity was held on Saturday (9/4/2022) with the moderator Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati is back. In this last session, Prof. Lee explained ways to increase the chances of manuscripts being accepted. He mentioned there were 5 reasons why articles could be rejected.

“There are several ways that can be done to increase the opportunity for journal article manuscripts to be accepted by reviewers. One is to study the reasons why articles were rejected. There are 5 reasons why articles can be rejected. First, researchers are less focused on the problem under study. Second, the literature review is not up to date. The third reason, research methods, designs, instruments, and analysis are still ambiguous. Fourth, the discussion section and research results are still weak. Finally, the recommendations and implications are still lacking,” explained Prof. Lee
