TIF is a non-profit organization under the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) Osaka-Nara, Japan. This organization is oriented to make a real contribution to advancing the quality of Indonesian education, especially in the 3T area. TIF routinely raises funds from students who are continuing their education in the country of Sakura to help schools in Indonesia that do not yet have the proper educational supporting infrastructure.

Moderated by Mercy Bientri Yunindanova, SP, M.Sc., as a Lecturer of Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS, the discussion forum was held online through a live broadcast on the Instagram account @taiyouindonesiafoundation. This discussion forum is packed with a question-and-answer system. The moderator asked questions, both of which had been prepared by the committee and participants, to be responded to by the speakers.

At the beginning of the discussion session, Roy gave an overview of the goals of basic education in Indonesia. According to him, basic education aims to prepare students with scientific foundations that will be used in the future.

“Simply put, basic education aims to prepare for the next level. Who is prepared? What is prepared is students at the elementary level. For example, at the elementary level means preparing for the junior high level, and so on. So what are you preparing for? What is prepared is the provision or scientific foundations that will be used in the future. So we’re not talking about results, but how students understand and want to learn,” explained Roy.

Furthermore, Roy also gave his views on the uneven quality of education in Indonesia. He explained that this problem needed the role of the teacher. According to him, these problems require teachers to initiate solving them.

“It is undeniable that the quality of education in Indonesia is not evenly distributed. Let alone between big cities and 3T areas, between schools in one city, there are differences in facilities to support the educational process. So what can teachers do? The teacher has to do the initiation. That is, teachers don’t just come, teach, and then go home. But, look for the facts, find the problem, discuss it, and provide a solution. Limitations should not only be accepted but they must also be pursued, “explained Roy.

At the end of the discussion session, Roy invited all teachers in Indonesia to realize a civilized education. Education that not only teaches students to solve problems but education that facilitates them to have skills in the future.

“Students at the elementary school level are 100% the future of Indonesia. Those who will later hold the direction of this nation will be taken. Therefore, I invite the main teachers at the elementary school level to realize a civilized education. All students are unique and intelligent. They should not only be taught how to solve problems but facilitate them to have future skills,” said Roy.
