FKIP – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Bishopric Seminar V entitled “International Seminar and Indonesian Culture Degree” on Saturday (28/5/2022). Held online through the Zoom Meeting application and live broadcast on M Rohmadi Ratu’s Youtube account, the seminar carried the theme “Reflections on Indonesian Language Learning for Foreign Speakers in Five Continents”.
As the organizing committee, the Study Program (Prodi) of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) FKIP UNS does not only provide a forum for discussion on the subject of Bishoprics. In the seminar, they also launched a book entitled “Tentang Indonesia” by students of Yale University, United States of America (USA), and a Javanese Culture-Based BIPA Textbook with the title “Jateng Gayeng”.

In his speech, Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, S.S., M. Hum. as Chairman of the Committee for the Seminar on BIPA V explained that the seminar was one of the efforts to internationalize the Indonesian language. He also explained that the same effort was made by the PBSI FKIP UNS Study Program by conducting internships teaching BIPA abroad.
“We are grateful to be able to carry out the 5th annual Bishopric Seminar as an effort to internationalize the Indonesian language. This effort was also carried out by the PBSI FKIP UNS Study Program through collaboration with BIPA teaching practices at foreign universities, both by lecturers and students. One of them is with Yale University which is currently ranked sixth in the world,” explained Dr. Khundaru.
Dr. Khundaru added that from the BIPA internship process and the efforts to internationalize the Indonesian language, two books were born. The first book is the book “Tentang Indonesia” written by BIPA students at Yale University which tells about social and cultural events in Indonesia. The second book is “Jateng Gayeng” as a BIPA teaching material by the PBSI FKIP UNS Study Program which contains socio-cultural information in all districts in Central Java.
“From the internship process, a book “About Indonesia” was born which was written by BIPA Yale University students. The book tells about social and culture in Indonesia. In addition, we from the PBSI FKIP UNS Study Program have also made a book entitled “Jateng Gayeng” as material to teach BIPA which contains socio-cultural topics in all districts in Central Java. The two books will be launched at this seminar, “added Dr. Khundaru.

The speech was continued by Dr. Ganjar Harimansyah as Head of the Central Java Province Language Center (BPJJT). He revealed that the launch of the two books was an honor and an asset in the process of internationalizing the Indonesian language.
“It is an honor that the book “Tentang Indonesia” which tells the culture in Indonesia and the book “Jateng Gayeng” with a local Central Java nuance can be launched by the PBSI Study Program in this fifth Bishopric Conference. This book is cool. -Indonesian which we can absorb and draw from books. In addition, this book is very meaningful in internationalizing the Indonesian language, “said Dr. reward.
Furthermore, he hopes that the two books can be disseminated. He said that the BBPJT as the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology was ready to assist in the publication of the two books.
“We from the Language Center of Central Java Province as the Technical Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology warmly welcome this book. Hopefully, this book can be widely distributed and if it is not traded, we from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology are very happy and very proud to participate in spreading it. We are ready to display this book on websites or on our websites,” said Dr. reward.
