Akhmad explained that debate is a discussion or exchange of opinions on a matter by giving each other reasons to defend their respective opinions. He said there are six steps that need to be taken to participate in the debate competition.
“There are several steps that need to be taken to participate in the debate competition. The first step is to form a solid team, enthusiastic, and ready to learn. Then search for information through social media using the hashtags #lombadebat, #debatnasional, #debatmahasiswa, and so on. Prepare the team that has been formed through sparing debate. Do a debate simulation with an accredited jury or debate practitioner. Make sure the arguments presented are solid with the team’s arguments. Lastly, you have to help each other with other co-speakers,” said Akhmad.
Furthermore, Akhmad also explained the strategy in debating. According to him, there are four strategies in debating, namely mentally prepare, build a case comprehensively, create teamwork, and answer the burden of the BOP.
“There are 4 strategies in debating. The first is to prepare mentally. In the course of the debate we must keep the mind calm in order to master the course of the debate. Second, build a comprehensive case. In debate there is time to build a case. When case building, the case must be built comprehensively. Third, create teamwork because the debate competition is a team competition. Lastly, in the debate, you have the responsibility to answer the BOP of the debate,” said Akhmad.
After the presentation of the material, the activity continued with a question and answer session and ended with joint documentation.
