FKIP – Mathematics Education Study Program collaborates with the Mathematics Education Student Association (Himmadika)) The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an IT Application Webinar on Sunday (12/6/2022). Themed “IT Applications in Creating Creative Learning Media”, the webinar was held online through the Zoom Meeting application.

In his speech, Riki Andriatna, S.Pd., M.Pd. as the Representative of the Mathematics Education Study Program and the Advisor for Himmadika FKIP UNS said that as prospective educators, Mathematics Education students must have the ability to create innovative and interactive learning media. He hopes that this webinar can improve the ability of Mathematics Education students in creating these learning media.
“As prospective teachers, we hope that Mathematics Education students who will become educators can keep pace with the faster flow of technology and information. That is, they have IT skills in creating innovative and interactive learning media, in addition to using conventional media to make it easier for students to understand mathematics. Hopefully, this activity can provide new understanding to prospective educators regarding the media that can be used in the mathematics learning process,” hoped Riki.
Moderated by Fathika Nabila as a student of the Mathematics Education Study Program, FKIP UNS, this webinar presented a resource person. The resource persons were Uki Rahmawati, S.Pd., M.Pd. He is Head of the Division of Research, Development, Capacity Building, and Training in Mathematics at the SEAMEO Regional Center for QITEP.
In his presentation, he brought the material entitled “Utilization of Technology as a Media for Mathematics Learning”. In the material, he explained the technology in learning in general, technology in learning mathematics, the role of technology in learning, to the technical use of learning media technology in learning mathematics.
Uki explained that there are 3 points of technology in learning media. The three points are a technology for presentation, technology for curriculum, and technology for cognitive learning.
“There are 3 points of technology in learning mathematics. First is the technology for presentation. Media that can be used as a technology for presentations are Desmos, Geogebra, and so on. The second is a technology for the curriculum, such as Learning Houses, Teacher Rooms, and so on. Lastly is cognitive learning technology that can use Geogebra, Desmos, Mathigon, Cornerstone Math, and so on media,” explained Uki.
Furthermore, Uki also explained that the thing that needs to be considered in using technology in learning is to create learning media that allow students to be more directly involved.
“When using technology, the important thing to note is to design or provide activities that allow students to be more directly involved or hands-on experience than just paper and pencil activities which are then transferred in digital form,” explained Uki.
In addition to explaining the material, Uki also guides webinar participants in using Mathematics learning media, such as Math Playground, GeoGebra, and Desmos. After the presentation of the material, the activity continued with a question and answer session and ended with joint documentation.
