FKIP – Masters Study Program (S-2) Educational Technology (TP) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Reputable Journal Article Writing Workshop on Friday (3/6/2022). The workshop was held online through the Zoom Meeting application.

In his remarks, the Head of the TP S-2 Study Program, Dr. Triana Rejekiningsih, M.Pd., said that this workshop is one way to foster a scientific culture. According to him, strengthening scientific culture will support UNS towards a world class university.

“Scientific publications, research, and innovation are among the things that can increase excellence. Thus, efforts are needed to foster a scientific culture that certainly supports excellence and is able to develop a research culture by publishing it in reputable journals. This is able to strengthen the research culture to support UNS towards world class university. So, this workshop is one of those efforts,” said Dr. Triana.

Moderated by Fakhrudin Sujarwo, S.Sos. as a student of S-2 TP Study Program, this workshop presented a resource person. The resource person is Dr. Dedy B. Lasfeto, M.T. He is a lecturer at the Kupang State Polytechnic. In his presentation, he presented a material entitled “Publication of Scientific Articles in Reputable International Journals”.

In the material, Dr. Dedy explained four main points. The four points are the importance of publication, considerations before writing a scientific article, the structure of a scientific article, as well as the editorial and review process. At the beginning of the presentation, he explained the general skills that graduates of a master’s program must possess.

“One of the general skills that must be possessed by master’s program graduates is based on compiling scientific conceptions and study results based on scientific principles, procedures, and ethics in the form of a thesis or other equivalent form, and uploaded on the university’s website, as well as papers that have been published in journals. scientifically accredited or accepted in international journals. Therefore, it is very important for them to know the criteria for reputable scientific journals,” explained Dr. Dedy.

Then, he also explained about the benefits of publication in accredited scientific journals or international journals. According to him, there are five benefits of this.

“In general, journals play a role in distributing research results. There are five benefits of publication in accredited journals or international journals, namely increasing visibility or readability, increasing the number of citations, increasing the h-index, increasing the impact factor or cite score, and increasing overseas authors,” said Dr. Dedy.

At the end of his presentation session, he gave several messages related to writing reputable scientific articles.

“Preparation for international article writing and submission is very important. Submit to the proper journal. Submit to one journal only. Pay close attention to English, if necessary use a linguist for proofreading. Pay attention to the structure and requirements of the journal,” concluded Dr. Dedy.

The activity continued with a question and answer session and ended with joint documentation.
