FKIP – Community Service Team Guidance and Counseling Study Program (BK) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta which is part of the Management Research Group, Psychoeducation, and Counseling held offline workshops in the hall 2 State High School (SMA) 3 Boyolali. The activity was held on Tuesday (19/7/2022).

The workshop, entitled Flexibility of Guidance and Counseling Services through the Integration of Neuroscience-based STEAM in collaboration with the Guidance and Counseling Teacher Consultation (MGBK) of Boyolali Regency, presented 50 high school, MA, and vocational BK teachers throughout Boyolali Regency.

On this occasion, the Head of the BK Study Program (Kaprodi), Dr. Naharu Surur, M.Pd., gave a speech.

“This activity is a manifestation of the implementation of the tri dharma of higher education, especially in the field of community service in responding to the challenges of an independent curriculum and sustainable professional development (PKB) for BK teachers,” said Dr. Naharus.

The activity was opened by the Coordinator of MGBK SMA/MA Boyolali Regency, namely Mrs. Yuni Safitri, M.Pd.

“BK teachers must be able to play a role in the implementation of an independent curriculum, starting from assessment, preparing work programs, evaluations, and follow-up plans. Currently, BK teachers must work based on data about potential, talents, interests, learning style tendencies, and personality characteristics so that they hope to be able to understand differentiated the characteristics and needs of students to provide the right and appropriate treatment, “explained Mrs. Yuni.

The activity was continued with a panel session by three speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Asrowi, M.Pd., Dr. Naharus Surur, M.Pd., and Dr. Ribut Purwaningrum, M.Pd. The first resource person is Dr. Naharus Surur, M.Pd. as the head of the implementing team as well as the Head of the BK FKIP UNS Study Program.

“Many of us still find it difficult to carry out a diagnostic assessment to the point of drawing it into an action plan,” said one of the activity participants.

The first resource person, Dr. Naharus reinforce his presentation.

“Please develop or carry out diagnostic assessments as a form of needed assessment which must be realized in the form of a counseling service strategy, which can be basic, responsive, and/or individual planning services. In this situation, it seems that individual planning services have become quite important to be developed and realized, even if they should have started from elementary school”.

The second resource person is Prof. Dr. Asrowi, M.Pd. as a member of the team as well as a Professor of BK FKIP UNS. Prof. Asrowi talked more about the implementation of counseling for BK teachers.

“In the transition period after the Covid-19 pandemic, there are many things that BK teachers must pay attention to. Students’ readiness to enter face-to-face learning needs to be responded positively by combining a neuroscience approach in counseling, a varied, interesting, and fun strategy, approach or counseling model is needed so that it can touch the hearts and deepest feelings of students, “said Prof. Asrowi.

The third resource person is Dr. Ribut Purwaningrum, M.Pd. In his presentation, Dr. Naning conveyed tips for maintaining mental health for BK teachers.

“BK teachers need to be mentally healthy, including being able to position themselves according to their needs, be able to be aware of stressors, be able to resolve stressors in the right way, and grow to be resilient individuals,” said Dr. Naning.

The activity continued with the appearance of 4-panel speakers, namely Ma’rifatin Indah Kholili, M.Pd., Citra Tectona Suryawati, M.Pd., Agus Tri Susilo, M.Pd., and Adi Dewantoro, M.Pd.

This second-panel session specifically discussed the plan for implementing BK services through the integration of neuroscience-based STEAM. Indah explained the cultivation of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics in guidance and counseling services. Then continued by Citra related to examples of implementation in the form of a classical guidance service implementation plan.

This activity ended with a simulation of classical guidance services with the theme “Career Planning” by Agus and Adi. Participants enthusiastically took part in the service simulation that was packaged with the “Let’s Succeed with Me” simulation game technique and bowling career planning.

“Wow, the game is fun, this is the difference between the classical guidance service of the BK teacher and the learning services provided by the subject teacher. The implementation of neuroscience-based STEAM can also be applied to the counseling service strategy so that it can activate and attract students’ interest in understanding the topic or material being discussed,” said one participant.
