FKIP UNS – The Community Service Team, which is part of the elementary school language learning innovation research group, assists in the development of teaching materials with an insight into the culture of the archipelago. This activity is carried out as an effort to strengthen teacher competence in developing digital teaching materials. The first assistance was carried out on all class teachers of SDN 2 Kleco.
The Head of the Research Group, Prof. Dr. Retno Winarni, M.Pd., in his speech stated that “Currently, technological developments are increasing rapidly. Children are increasingly active and interested in digital media. The learning model in elementary schools is getting more and more dynamic. For this reason, teacher creativity is needed in developing innovative and attractive digital teaching materials for students. One of them is in the form of digital teaching materials with an insight into the culture of the archipelago that is relevant to the times and supports the implementation of an independent curriculum.”
The series of workshop events were opened directly by the head of the Elementary School Language Learning Innovation research group. The workshop participants followed the complete series of events. They listen to the material and are accompanied to practice directly. The first material on the variety of cultures of the archipelago was delivered by Drs. Muhammad Ismail S., M.Pd. The second material was about the development of teaching materials Indonesian delivered by Prof. Dr. StY. Slamet, M.Pd. The third material on the development of digital teaching materials was delivered by Dr. Septi Yulisetiani, M.Pd. The fourth material on motivation to become a creative and innovative educator was delivered by Dra. Jenny Indrastoeti Siti P., M.Pd.

Workshop participants do not only listen to information from the speakers. They also carry out guided practices. Starting from the selection of teaching material content, the variety of Indonesian culture, and the practice of developing digital teaching materials with an insight into the archipelago culture.
“We are very happy and respond well to the whole series of workshops. The benefits of these activities can be felt by teachers and principals. Teachers are becoming more experienced in the development of teaching materials that are following learning. We feel that just using the theme book is very lacking.” Said Siti Samsiyah., S.Pd., M.Pd. principal of SD N 2 Kleco.
A high enthusiasm was seen in the practical session on developing digital teaching materials, the teachers designed the content of teaching materials, and designed flipbooks that were attractive and practical, and easily accessible to all students.
“In the learning process, we often encounter material on the diversity of Indonesian culture, but the reading text, image illustrator, and other content are less touching on the variety of cultures in Indonesia. In short, the variety of cultures raised is very interesting if it is integrated into relevant material.” Said Novalia Mega, a teacher at SD N 2 Kleco.
The workshop on the development of teaching materials with an insight into the culture of the archipelago is one of the activities designed to strengthen teacher competence. The assistance carried out by the community service team of the Elementary School Language Learning Innovation research group equips teachers to have the ability to develop innovative digital teaching material products with an insight into Indonesian culture that can be used in the implementation of learning in elementary schools.
