FKIP – The Mechanical Engineering Education Student Association (HMP Compression) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Corel Draw training with the theme “Develop Creativity with Graphic Design”. This training was carried out online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (18/6/2022).

In his remarks, Adnan Fatchurrachman as chairman of the committee said that this Corel Draw training was one of the events organized by UNS Compression HMP which aims to provide the basics in learning computer design for Compression HMP administrators and the general public to get to know Corel Draw.

“In the end we will be invited to recognize and understand what is contained in the Corel Draw software, so that we can improve the ability to operate it and also indirectly increase creativity related to graphic design through Corel Draw software,” he said.

This training presented Zharfa Hafizhotul Qonita as a speaker guided by an emcee, Aditya Putut Ciptadi and Siti Fadhilah. In his presentation, Zharfa said that graphic design or graphic design is a communication process using visual elements, such as typography, photography, and illustrations that are intended to create a perception of a message being conveyed.

“When you hear the word graphic design, the first thing that must be translated is about the message, because graphic design is actually an intermediary like Gojek, for example, Gojek is an intermediary between the same customer who makes the production, graphic design is the same, when we make a our design is an intermediary to convey the message,” said Zharfa.

Furthermore, Zharfa explained about the supporting elements in the design, namely points, lines, fields, illustrations, typography, colors, light and dark, textures, and space. He also explains eight patterns that are often used by graphic designers, namely unity, balance, proportion, emphasis, rhythm, simplicity, space, and clarity.

Zharfa said that in making designs the most important thing is about time or witing tresna jalaran saka kulino, meaning that loving design needs to be done repeatedly until it becomes an inherent character.

“So making the design is actually a matter of time, my friends, so when we finish making the design, we will definitely feel that it’s true or not, it looks like it’s not enough, doesn’t glow, isn’t thick, or isn’t big enough. witing tresna jalaran saka kulino yes usually, we will love when we are always repeating what we are doing, well like graphic design, as long as we keep repeating it, as long as we always make it will definitely become our character and it will become That’s what we like the most,” said the COO of CivilArch Company.

Before proceeding with a demonstration of using the Corel Draw application by creating a poster design, Zharfa explained the tools in Corel Draw. The tools are pick tools, shape tools, smooth tools, smear tools, swirl tools, attract and repell tools, smudge tools, roughen tools, crop tools, zoom tools, freehand tools, artistic media tools, rectangle tools, ellipse tools, polygons tools, text tools, table tools, parallel dimension tools, connector tools, shadow tools, transparency tools, color eyedrop tools, interactive fill tools, and outline tools.
