FKIP — A series of activities entitled “Khatulistiwa” of the Student Association of the Geography Education Study Program (HIMAGO) of the Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has been held. In order to close the series of activities, HIMAGO held a national seminar with the theme “Implementation of Smart City as an Alternative to Face the Challenges of City Management in Indonesia” online via Zoom Meeting and live broadcast on the HIMAGO UNS Youtube account on Sunday (23/10/2022).

On this occasion, Ali Nur Mustafa as the chairman of the committee submitted an activity report.

“Khatulistiwa is HIMAGO’s annual work program. This year, the National Essay Competition, Geography Olympiad Championship, and National Seminar have been held,” he explained.

The seminar was opened directly by the Head of the Geography Education Study Program (Kaprodi) of FKIP UNS namely Dr. Yasin Yusup, S.Si., M.Si.

“The study program welcomes this activity and from the theme, it is hoped that it can deliver to PKM,” said Dr. Yasin.


The first guest speaker, Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Sc., M.T., as Geography Lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). She delivered material entitled “Implementation of Smart City as an Alternative to Face the Challenges of City Management in Indonesia: SMART CITY IKN”.

“Smart city can be defined as a city that is able to manage a variety of different resources effectively and efficiently to address urban challenges with innovative, integrated and sustainable solutions,” she explained.

Elements of smart city development described by Dr. Rini consists of six things namely smart governance, smart branding, smart economy, smart living, smart society, and smart environment.

Next, Dr. Rini explained the smart city concept as a form of regional development in Indonesia and the State Capital’s smart city (IKN).

The second guest speaker, Dr. Yasin Yusup, S.Si., M.Si. presented material entitled “Smart City as a Form of Regional Development in Indonesia”. In his presentation, Dr. Yasin discussed the role of the community in implementing smart city.

“Digital world in 2030 consists of circular economy, citizen governance, sharing resources, places-based, participatory and inclusive, open platforms, and collective intelligence,” he explained.
