FKIP – Student Master of Indonesian Language Education (S-2 PBI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education ( FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a rhetorical workshop entitled “The Existence of Language, Culture and Literature.” This activity was held offline in the Hall of UNS Postgraduate G Building on Thursday (15/12/2022). This activity was held as an effort to improve the language skills of students.

Head of UNS Indonesian Language Education Masters Study Program, Dr. Sumarwati, M.Pd., said that it is important to master the art of rhetoric for students. Through good rhetorical skills, Indonesian language education program students have broad opportunities to create and work. Through art rhetoric, students can develop logical, critical, systematic, and creative thinking in scientific research. So students need to master rhetorical abilities to support their potential.

“So with a good mastery of rhetoric, students have broad job opportunities. Not only are they determined to become teachers. They can work with their rhetorical abilities. One of them can be a book writer, script editor, and others,” said Dr. Sumarwati.

of the committee, Dyah Metyawati Nur Afifah added that the workshop aims to equip students with an understanding of language. Understanding rhetoric for students is important to support the communication process so that it is better. Good mastery of the art of speaking and speaking will help convey information so that it is easily digested and understood.

“We present 13 rhetorical works in a language that we package in the form of infographics so that they are easy to understand. We also collaborate with visual arts to make it more interesting,” he said.

As an introduction to rhetoric, two rhetorical materials were presented by experts, namely UNS Indonesian Language Education lecturer, Dr. Edy Suryanto M.Pd., and Dr. Sugit Zulianto, M.Pd. Not only that but in the rhetoric workshop activities students also display rhetorical art in various forms. Among them are poetry musicalization, poetry readings in series, and appearances by eight presenters at a scientific rhetoric workshop exhibition.

“No matter how smart we are when dealing with new people, we are bound to be confused (awkward), but mastering the art of rhetoric will help. So rhetoric is an important weapon for students, “explained the speaker.
