FKIP – Several Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta students have won a silver award in the 2022 International Mathematical Science and Creativity Competition (IMSCC) organized by the Foundation for the Advancement of STEAM (FAS-Korea) ). They are part of a team called the Four Heroines.

The team is chaired by Hanifa Alifia Puteri from the Mathematics Education Study Program. Meanwhile, other team members are Sarah Khoirunisa from the Mathematics Education Study Program, Farah Yuki Prasetyawati from the Physics Education Study Program, and Robawati from Mathematics Education. In this competition, they were guided by Dr. Farida Nurhasanah, M.Pd who is a Lecturer in Mathematics Education Study Program.

Robawati admitted that she was happy with the achievements she had achieved.

“We feel happy and excited because we can participate in an international level competition and can bring awards to Sebelas Maret University,” said Robawati as quoted in a release by the uns. ac.id Journalist Team.

Furthermore, Robawati explained that her team’s early interest was in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) and 4D frames.

“Starting from curiosity about STEAM and 4D frames, we wanted to try to take part in this competition. Where this 4D frame is a kind of game that can be combined in the fields of mathematics, art, and engineering. Through this competition, we want to increase our creativity as students in creating a work that has a novelty value by utilizing a 4D frame,” explained Robawati.

This competition is held online through the Zoom Meeting application. Robawati and her friends succeeded in making achievements during the final presentation which took place on October 22, 2022. They brought up a work called “Balancing Clown”.

“We named the work we created “Balancing Clown”, a design made from 4D frames that represents one of the games in a circus where a circus performer crosses a rope using a wheel. We combine pulleys and balance systems in physics combined with mathematics and engineering,” said Robawati.

Furthermore, Roba explained that in participating in this competition there were challenges they faced. Roba admitted that at first, it was difficult for them to find a suitable idea to implement 4D frame-based media. In addition, because the creation of their work combines several scientific fields such as mathematics, physics, and engineering, it makes them a little difficult when the work they create does not go according to plan. Representing her friends, Robawati hopes to be able to take part in more competitions at both national and international levels.

“Hopefully we can take part in more competitions, both nationally and internationally, and produce works that are of course useful,” Robawati hoped.
