FKIP – Lecturer in Early Childhood Education (PG-PAUD) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta developed a learning model based on the among system, namely asah, asih, and fostering. They are dr. Siti Wahyuningsih, M.Pd., Nurul Kusma Dewi, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Ruli Hafidah, S.Pd., M.Hum.
Research on the development of this learning model has been carried out since 2018. Until now, the implementation of this learning model is still carried out in several places such as Surakarta Kindergarten (TK), Pembina Kindergarten, Karanganyar Kindergarten, and Widya Putra Kindergarten. Dr. Siti explained that this learning model was formed for the formation of children’s character.
“This habituation learning model aims to form stronger children’s characters through play activities. Through this model, teachers can carry out effective habituation learning for character building,” explained Dr. Siti, as quoted on the uns.ac.id page.
Further, Dr. Siti explained that the among system, namely sharpening, caring, and fostering, in the learning process includes initial, core, rest, and closing activities. For example, the learning process can be carried out while playing folk songs such as Gundul-Bacul.
In implementing the among system, the teacher acts as a source of information in providing knowledge to early childhood, setting an example in actions, words, and dress, as well as a companion and facilitator for children during the learning process. Implementing the among system includes several stages, namely preparing the syllabus, preparing the Daily Learning Implementation Plan (RPPH), determining the media, and compiling and conducting assessments.
Dr. Siti explained that the among system in the form of fostering, caring, and fostering can be applied in the learning process, both from early childhood education to higher education.
“The among system in the form of fostering, caring, and fostering can be applied in the learning process, both from early childhood education to higher education. This system is by the learning theory of humanism in which a learning process humanizes humans with the role of each teacher and child in building knowledge so that a generation of people who have spiritual, emotional, and intellectual intelligence will be achieved,” he explained.
With this learning system, it is hoped that the formation of character in children will be easier.
“Hopefully, with the implementation of this teaching, compassion, and foster-based learning system, the results of character formation in children will be more easily embedded in the child’s personality,” hoped Dr. Siti.
