FKIP – Javanese Language Education Study Program (PBJ) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held its 10th Arts Degree on Friday (9/12/2022) with the theme ” Manunggaling Karsa Nyawiji Lestarining Jawi Culture”. The show was held offline at the Central Java Cultural Park Arena Theater (TA TBJT) in Surakarta City.
The Arts Degree is a drama staging event that has been routinely held by the Javanese Language Education Study Program since 2012. However, in 2022 the Arts Degree will be held twice by students from Batch 2019 and 2020 because the previous year was hampered by the pandemic so it could not be held.
This performance is one of their concrete manifestations in preserving traditional Javanese arts. Preparation for the performance of this art degree took five months, from August to December, including the adaptation into Javanese by the committee team.
The performance begins at 19.00 WIB with a 30-minute presentation by Uyon-uyon. Furthermore, there was a Gambyong Dance performance which is a traditional dance from Surakarta as a form of welcome by four people. Next, the main event is a theatrical performance that begins with a reading of the synopsis in Indonesian. The theater is also presented in full Javanese.

Contacted by the fkip.uns.ac.id Journalist Team, Sita Nurse, who is the Production Leader for the Arts Degree #10, explained that at this year’s performance, they presented a theatrical performance by adapting the script “Rembulan Wungu” by Bondan Nusantara. He said that this script was chosen because it was following the topic of feminism they wanted to carry out.
“At the 10th Art Exhibition, we staged a play adapted from a script entitled Rembulan Wungu. We chose this manuscript based on the topic of feminism in it. This manuscript tells about the struggle of Roro Oyi who made a big decision to avoid the division of Mataram. This is what distinguishes the Rembulan Wungu Art Exhibition from the others and is also a challenge for the committee because it generally tells the story of Amangkurat I and Adipati Anom,” explained Sita when contacted by the Journalist Team fkip.uns.ac.id on Monday (2/3/ 2022).
Sita hopes that this performance will provide a life value that can be taken and applied by the community. Internally, Sita hopes that the Arts Degree event can strengthen friendships within the Javanese Language Education Study Program, FKIP UNS.
“We hope that the audience can apply the moral message that is poured into this script. We also hope that with this performance we can apply the knowledge of the language that we have learned in lectures. In addition, the main purpose of the Arts Degree itself is to strengthen brotherly relations between generations, and the Arts Degree is a means for reunions of students or alumni of Javanese Language Education,” hoped Sita.
