FKIP – The Student of First Wave Chemistry Study Program Professional Education Student (PPG) Pre-service Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta 2022 held a socialization and demonstration of making kombucha tea at the Balai Elderly RT 02 RW 10 Kentingan, Surakarta. This socialization occurred online through the Zoom Meeting application for presenters and offline for participants on Sunday (26/2/2023). They are Dini Lathifa Husna, Evi Khabibah Lestari, and Fajar Aditya Nur Apsari.

This socialization was carried out to fulfill the task of the Leadership Project course which was intended to develop leadership qualities as prospective professional teachers. This socialization was attended by members of the Youth Organization and Family Welfare Empowerment RT 02 RW 10 Kentingan, Surakarta.

The socialization activity began with a presentation of material by Septy Haryanny, the owner of Rumah Fermentasi. He explained material on the introduction of kombucha tea, tools and materials in making kombucha tea, the process of making kombucha tea, how to consume kombucha tea, factors that affect the fermentation process when making kombucha tea, things to avoid during the process of making kombucha tea, the benefits of kombucha tea, and the entrepreneurial potential of kombucha tea.

“Kombucha is a fermented tea that utilizes bacteria and yeast commonly called Scoby. Kombucha tea is believed to reduce high blood pressure, improve digestion, and act as an antioxidant. Kombucha can be consumed every day, but with the amount according to the rules. Additionally, fermented kombucha and Scoby teas can also be used as hair tonics, soaps, and other products,” explained Septy.

In addition, he also demonstrates how to make and vary the flavors in making kombucha tea. After the presentation of the material, the activity continued with a demonstration guided by students with the tools and materials provided.

As the head of the group, Dini hopes this activity will inspire the community to utilize tea in unique preparations. He also hopes that the target community will gain new insights and knowledge regarding using tea as a fermented kombucha tea product with economic value.

“We hope this activity will inspire the public to use tea as a unique product. We also hope the public will gain new insights and knowledge about using tea as a fermented kombucha product. Thus, the community is interested in developing their entrepreneurial potential independently to improve their economy,” Dini hoped.

Dhea as Chairperson of Karang Taruna RT 02 welcomed this activity. He hopes that holding this socialization activity can provide new insights and skills in using tea products to make tea products have high selling value. In addition, he also hopes that the public can utilize the kombucha tea product in their daily life as a herbal drink to maintain health.
