FKIP – Students of the Fine Arts Education Study Program (PSR) of the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held the 13th Art Educare International Fine Arts Exhibition (AEC). With the theme “Reconnect”, this exhibition was held at the Central Java Cultural Park (TBJT) for 4 days from Wednesday (24/05/2023) to Saturday (27/05/2023).

Reconnect as the theme for the 13th Art Educare activity this year refers to the desire to continue strengthening and expanding the collectivity-based art movement. This theme is also a sign of efforts to re-establish interpersonal communication and collaboration within the UNS internal campus and communities that have been involved in Art Educare activities and want to invite more participants who have not been connected to any art practice in Art Educare. This activity is expected to be an entry point for student interaction patterns and also the community outside the campus through artistic activities.

The 13th Art Educare International Fine Arts Exhibition was inaugurated directly by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Sc. accompanied by the Head of the FKIP UNS PSR Study Program, Dr. Adam Wahida, S.Pd., M.Sn on Wednesday (24/05/2023).

In his remarks, Dr. Mardiyana also expressed his appreciation for holding the 13th Art Educare exhibition. He said that an event like this could also be a vehicle for hospitality, communication, and building networks for artists.

Furthermore, Dr. Mardiyana hopes the PSR FKIP UNS Study Program will continue producing quality work. He also hopes this event can spark interest in the younger generation for the artist profession.

“Hopefully, the PSR FKIP UNS Study Program can continue to produce quality work. Fine art is a very proud potential. With this activity, he hopes to awaken the younger generation so that they enjoy the profession of being an artist. On behalf of the faculty, we would like to thank the committee for facilitating the organization of this activity so that the exhibition could run well. I would also like to thank colleagues from abroad who have agreed to attend to meet and stay in touch at this exhibition. Hopefully, this activity will form cooperation between Indonesian art and foreign art,” continued Dr. Mardiyana.

Afdan Yusron Nawawi, the head of the exhibition committee, said that this time Art Educare brought well-known sources from within the country and abroad to hold public lectures and artist talks.

“In our public lecture activities, we will present artists from within the country Heri Dono, which will take place in front of the Taman Budaya Central Java Fine Arts Gallery starting at 10.00 am,” said Afdan.

“Heri Dono was the first Indonesian artist who succeeded in breaking into the global art scene in the early 1990s, and we also brought in several artists from abroad as Artist Talks, namely Dr. Rosli Zakaria from UITM Malaysia and Melissa Abuga A from the Philippines,” added Afdan.

Apart from bringing in speakers, a series of other events during the exhibition took place, such as the theatrical opening from the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Surakarta, musical performances from students, lecturers, and art education alumni, including the “The Dozer” Band, the “Bledek” Band, and the “Sekutu Dansa” on Wednesday (24/05/2023). Live painting performance, artist talk Melissa Abuga-A (Filipino artist) and Dr. Rosli Zakaria (Malaysia), went to college with Pak Heri Dono on Thursday (25/05/2023).

Open gallery on Friday (26/05/2023). They are performing Art by Fine Arts Education Students, musical performances by the UNY Band “The Wirox” and UNY Band “The Provocateur”, musical performances by the ISI “Goon” band, performances by the “REALITA” Band, and also band performances by alumni of the FKIP UNS Fine Arts Education as a guest star, namely “GODRES GEDTIH” on Saturday (27/05/2023).

Afdan hopes that this activity can become a forum for building communication and collaboration and be an entry point for patterns of interaction between students and the outside community through artistic activities.

“I hope that holding the 13th Art Educare International Fine Arts Exhibition this time can build communication and collaboration and become an entry point for patterns of interaction between students and the community outside campus through artistic activities. I also thank all those who always support the continuation of Art Educare,” concluded Afdan.
