FKIP: In the framework of implementing a leadership project, a group of Pre-service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Students Batch 2 of the 2022 Indonesian Language Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held an activity entitled “MAKCIK (Menulis Asyik Ciptakan Anak Indonesia Kreatif)” at Gandekan Smart Park, Jebres, Surakarta. This activity was carried out from 8 April – 3 June 2023.

The organizers of this activity consisted of 11 PPG Pre-service Batch 2 of 2022 students in the field of Indonesian Language Education, namely Kukuh Aria Nusantara, Farida Nurkhayati, Dwinanda Wuri Harsanti, Mulyo Lestari, Evi Handayani, Reyza Amalia, Septiana Widya Pangesti, Ikawati Sukarna, Reyvaldi Yuda Ismail, Erna Migita, and Maryam Sri Muhaimini. This project runs under Dr. Muhammad Rohmadi, S.S., M.Hum., Dr. Chafit Ulya, M.Pd., and Titi Setiyoningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd., as supervising lecturers.

The theme that was carried out in this project activity was “Turning Unique Experiences into Interesting Writing.” It includes several activities, including writing training, writing contests, and waste paper recycling training.

Interviewed by the fkip.uns.ac.id team, Kukuh Aria Nusantara as the group leader, said that this project was motivated by a community stigma that views writing as complicated and cannot be done by young children.

“The background of this activity is the assumption that writing is difficult, so children’s interest in literacy is low. There are many assumptions that small children cannot do meaningful things, including writing,” he explained on Monday (22/5/2023).

Furthermore, Kukuh said this project aims to invite children to write actively, to become a space for expression, and to become a program to increase the potential for writing skills.

“The aims of this project include inviting children to be active in writing starting from everyday experiences, to become a program to increase the potential for writing skills, and to become a space for children’s expression through writing activities,” he said.

To support the implementation of the activity, this project cooperates with the Solo Teaching community, Gandekan Smart Park management, and Gandekan Village to participate in a series of MAKCIK agendas. Through the implementation of this project, students hope to provide benefits for activity participants, the Solo Teaching community, and students.

“For the participants, we hope that this activity can help improve their creativity and short story writing skills. For the community this activity can increase the existence of the community and can be used as a routine activity. For students, this project is useful for developing teaching skills and making a real contribution in the field of education,” he explained.

In the end, Kukuh expressed his hope for the implementation of this activity.

“Through this activity, we hope to motivate students and guide participants to write consistently even though the activity has finished,” he concluded.
