FKIP – The Technical Implementation Unit for New Student Admission Selection (UPT SPMB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held UNS Open Days which discussed the Socialization of UNS Independent Pathway 2023. This event was held online and broadcast live via YouTube SPMB UNS, Instagram @spmbuns, and Zoom Meeting. UNS Open Days activities last for 2 days, from Monday (5/6/2023) to Tuesday (6/6/2023). The first day of UNS Open Days was filled with UNS Leader’s Greetings and Faculty Q&A. Then, the second day was filled with Faculty Q&A and Scholarship Information.
On this occasion, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Sc. as the Dean of the Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP) UNS participated in the Faculty Q&A session representing FKIP UNS. Held in the form of a talk show, Dr. Mardiyana started the Q&A session by answering questions about what other prospects FKIP students have besides becoming teachers.
“Related to the prospects for FKIP students according to the profile of the study programs in FKIP, the main prospect is to become educators. So, graduates from FKIP’s S-1 are expected to become teachers and graduates from FKIP’s S-2 and S-3 are expected to become lecturers. However, there are other prospects according to the characteristics of each study program. Some become entrepreneurs in education, work in companies, work in the arts and culture, and e.t.c.,” explained Dr. Mardiyana.
Next, he answered questions about what subjects FKIP UNS students would study. He explained that FKIP students not only learn knowledge that is characteristic of the study program but also how to teach and educate students.
“FKIP student certainly learns how to become professional teacher candidate so that the FKIP is equipped with courses that prepare graduates to teach well and professionally. FKIP students will be equipped and prepared with 4 competencies, namely pedagogic, personality, social, and professional competencies. Besides having to learn the sciences that are characteristic of their study program, FKIP students also have to learn how to teach and educate students,” explained Dr. Mardiyana.
He also said that a prospective teacher must be interested in becoming a teacher and be motivated to devote himself to the world of education to share knowledge.
“As a prospective teacher, you must be interested in becoming a teacher and be motivated to devote yourself to the world of education to share knowledge. Therefore, it is hoped that those who become FKIP students will be interested and motivated to become teachers from the start. However, this can be learned while studying at FKIP. Usually, after studying the sciences of teacher education and being close to students, passion arises,” said Dr. Mardiyana.
At the end of the talk show session, Dr. Mardiyana asked why FKIP UNS is worthy of being an option to continue undergraduate studies.
“FKIP UNS is the largest faculty at UNS. We have 48 study programs, so there are lots of study program choices for you to choose from. At this time, we have 25 undergraduate study programs. Of the 25 study programs, 23 have been accredited superior and 2 are new study programs. Then of these study programs 12 have been accredited internationally and two are still in the visitation process. We also cooperate with many partners from within and outside the country. So, don’t be afraid to choose FKIP as your follow-up study,” said Dr. Mardiyana.
