FKIP – The Community Service Team (PkM) of the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held Educational Game Development Training activities for elementary school teachers who are members of the Dabin 1 Elementary School Teacher Working Group (KKG) Dabin 1 Gugus Raden Mas Said Karanganyar Regency. The training was held on Monday (12/6/2023) at KKG Dabin 1 Core Elementary School, SD Negeri 1 Karanganyar.

A total of 30 elementary school teachers participated in the training enthusiastically. These teachers are representatives of several schools, including SD Negeri 1 Karanganyar, SD Negeri 2 Karanganyar, SD Negeri 3 Karanganyar, SD Negeri 2 Jungke, SD Negeri 1 Cangakan, SD Negeri 2 Cangakan, SD Negeri 1 Lalung, SD Negeri 2 Lalung , Lalung 3 Public Elementary School, Tegalgede 3 Public Elementary School, Insan Kamil Elementary School, and Karanganyar Christian Elementary School.

This educational game development training activity was carried out collaboratively by Dr. Septi Yulisetiani, M.Pd., from the Master’s Program (S-2) of Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) FKIP UNS with Puspanda Hatta, S.Kom. M.Eng., and Yusfia Hafid Aristyagama, S.T., M.T. from the Informatics and Computer Engineering Education Study Program (PTIK) FKIP UNS. This activity also involved several students from the two study programs. The activity implementation received full support from the UNS Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM).

The training was opened directly by Dr. Dyah Sulistyowati, M.Pd. as superintendent of Dabin 1 Elementary School Karanganyar. In his remarks, he said that this activity was expected to increase the competence of elementary school teachers in preparing learning media.

“This activity initiated by the FKIP UNS PkM team is very good for increasing the competence of elementary school teachers who can become training participants. The knowledge gained in the training should be passed on to other elementary school teachers. We will delegate the head of the KKG to follow up through regular KKG meetings with the agenda of developing educational games that can be used as learning media for elementary schools,” said Dr. Dyah.

The development of learning media in the form of educational games can support the implementation of the independent curriculum and become one of the solutions to the limited digital learning media that are by the development of students. Learning media developed directly by the teacher will suit the needs of the students. This training seeks to build teacher competence in creating learning media, especially educational games.

Educational games teachers develop cover a wide range of subjects, including Mathematics, Indonesian, and Natural Sciences. In this game, students can learn in an interactive and fun way through specially designed games, challenges, and levels. The developed educational game is also equipped with a score feature that can be used to monitor the development of students’ knowledge and skills. Teachers can identify the development of each student individually.

During the training, the PkM team demonstrated various effective strategies for developing educational games. They also provide practical guidance on selecting and evaluating games according to the school’s needs and curriculum. The results of the training activities are in the form of educational game products that can be utilized in learning in elementary schools.
