FKIP UNS – Study Program (Prodi) Indonesian Language and Literature Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta collaborated with UPT Library UNS to hold library competency improvement training. In this activity, the UNS Library cooperates with UNS. This training activity was held offline on 26-27 June 2023 in building E FKIP UNS room IE202. Then the activities continued online through a Zoom meeting platform on 3-7 July 2023.

Participants in the activity were attended by 87 semester 2 students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program FKIP UNS. The implementation of this activity aims to channel knowledge and skills to students in understanding the technical activities of library management with the latest technological developments to prepare 21st-century teachers.

The first day of the opening of the training was attended by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si. In his remarks, Dr. Mardiyana conveyed the insights of the Freedom to Learn on the Independent Campus (MBKM). The hope is that the independent campus program will improve the quality of education, and students are expected to have the opportunity to develop relevant skills in fields of interest to students.

Dr. Raheni Suhita, M.Hum., as the Head of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, FKIP UNS, provided encouragement and motivation for students to have competence in library management and participate in activities well.

“I hope that all Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program students can enthusiastically participate in library competency improvement training until the end of the activity, and the knowledge received can benefit students,” explained Dr. Raheni.

Dr. Edy Suryanto, M.Pd. as the Chief Executive of this training activity, said that the training activities aim to make students competent and improve students’ abilities in carrying out school library management and management tasks. Thus, the competency training positively impacts all Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program FKIP UNS students.

Then Erland Cahyo Saputro, S.Sos., M.Hum. provided material on “School Libraries in the Perspective of XXI Century Teachers.” During the material presentation, Erland Cahyo Saputra, S.Sos., conveyed the importance of library management in schools, especially in Elementary Schools.

“Currently, there are still some schools whose libraries are in very poor condition,” said Erland Cahyo Saputro.

Erland Cahyo Saputro, S.Sos., gave several examples related to the condition of school libraries, such as in one elementary school, a library is combined or integrated with the UKS.

From the second to the 5th day, the training activities were conducted online through a Zoom meeting platform with speakers from the UPT UNS Library. Submission of material for 1 day there are 3-4 presenters. On the second day, Bambang Hermanto, S.Pd., M.Pd. delivered materials related to library management. Sri Anawati, S.Sos., M.Hum. delivered materials associated with the development of library collections. Dinar Puspita Dewi, S.Sos., delivered materials related to cataloging (theory and practice).

On the third day, which was held on July 3, the material was delivered by Haryanto, S.IP., M.IP. regarding the practice of digital library automation, followed by Ahmad Nur Rais, S. IP. M.IP. Furthermore, Muhammad Solihin, S. IP., M.IP. delivered related theory and practice subject classifications and headings, and Daryono delivered material related to library services. Henny Perwitosari, S.I.Pust. delivered materials related to user guidance and promotions.

On the fourth day, Daryono, S.Sos., M.IP. provided material related to library services. Sri Utari, S.E., M.A. providing materials related to reference services and information retrieval. Dr. Raheni Suhita, M. Hum. delivering materials on strategy and development of listening materials.

Then on the fifth day, the last speaker, Titi Setyoningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained the strategy and development of speaking material. Ari Suryawati Secio Chaesar, S.Pd., M.Pd. deliver materials related to strategy and development of reading materials. Dr. Chafit Ulya, S.Pd., M.Pd., provides materials related to the design and development of writing materials.
