FKIP – Joined in a Management, Psychoeducation, and Counseling Research Group (RG) Team, Lecturer in Guidance and Counseling Study Program (BK) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta held a Community Partnership Program ( PKM) on Tuesday (13/6/2023). The activity was carried out at Boyolali 1 State Vocational School with target partners, namely the Head of BKK and BK Teachers of Vocational Schools throughout the Boyolali Regency.
PKM is an activity that aims to solve problems faced by target partners. The PKM activity carried out by the RG Management, Psychoeducation, and Counseling Team was a training entitled “The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) Content Model to Grow Student Career Construction at the Vocational Special Job Exchange Forum (BKK) for Vocational Schools in Boyolali Regency”.
Norman, G. Peterson, et al. introduced The Occupational Information Network, often called O*NET, as a reference for individuals making career decisions. In O*NET, several things must be prepared for prospective graduates, including worker characteristics; worker requirements; experience requirements; occupational requirements; workforce characteristics; and occupational-specific information. This stimulated team members to provide training materials to BKK and BK SMK teachers in Boyolali.

The Head of the Region V Education Office Branch opened the activity, Dr. Sadimin, S.Pd., M.Eng. In his remarks, he said that career construction insights are very important in solving the problem of absorption of vocational high school (SMK) graduates in the world of work.
“Career construction insight is very important in solving the problem of absorption of vocational high school graduates in the business or industry, which is not yet optimal. Someone who has good career construction insight is expected to be able to plan a career more prepared and mature.
In line with this statement, Bambang Sutanto, S.H., M.H. as the Head of the Boyolali Regency Cooperative and Manpower Office, added that the introduction of career construction insights is a strategic choice in preparing a generation that is strong and ready to compete in the era of globalization and the challenges of a very competitive world of work.
“Currently, the era of globalization and the challenges of a very competitive world of work encourage vocational preparation as early as possible. The introduction of this career construction insight is a strategic choice in preparing a generation that is strong and ready to compete. So, problems regarding the occurrence of unsuitable jobs can be avoided,” added Bambang.
Prof. Dr. Asrowi, M.Pd. started the presentation of the training material. He conveyed career guidance services in the era of Society 5.0.
“The function of educators who are members of the Special Job Exchange Forum should be deliberately shifted from teaching knowledge and competence towards teaching ethical, cultural, wisdom, experience to social empathy and global morality values because these are values that machines cannot carry out and that ecosystem requires educators with a new mindset, rich in innovation or learning content, flexible, and adaptive to the world’s speedy changes,” said Prof. Asrowi.
Ma’rifatin Indah Kholili, M.Pd. continued the material presentation. He said that the characteristics of workers can be analyzed using the identification of interests and talents, such as the RIASEC John Holland interest test.
“Worker characteristics are long-lasting characteristics that can affect performance and the capacity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for effective job performance. Employee characteristics can be analyzed by identifying talent interests, one of which is using the RIASEC John Holland interest test,” said Ma’rifatin.
On the same occasion, Citra Tectona Suryawati, M.Pd. added material presentation regarding providing job information by the O*NET Content Model.
“The O*NET Content Model provides information by linking descriptive job information with labor market information, usually followed up with expo or job fair activities,” explained Citra.
The presentation of the training material was closed with a technical explanation of the ONET Content Model module, which it is hoped can be implemented by BKK and BK teachers in their respective schools by Adi Dewantoro, M.Pd.
“An innovative approach to career guidance and counseling services must be designed and assessed based on the following four criteria, namely, it must be consistent, appropriate, relevant, and sufficiently aligned and sensitive to change,” concluded Adi.
The training activities ended with reflection and discussion with the heads of the BKK and the BK teachers. Ridwan, S.Pd., head of the Boyolali District Vocational School BKK forum, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the UNS PKM Team, the BKK head, the Counseling Teachers, and all invited guests for holding this activity.
“This is a new color and development in a website-based career guidance service. It is hoped that the heads of the BKK and the representatives of the Counseling Teachers can implement the results of the training in their respective schools,” said Ridwan.
Citra Hanum Rahmawati as a student of the BK FKIP UNS Study Program as well as one of the supporting committee members stated that this activity was part of the community service carried out by the BK FKIP UNS Lecturer Team, which involved students in its implementation. According to him, this provides a real experience that provides insight into how to get involved in society later.

This training aims to equalize the perception, downstream, and implementation of teachers who are members of the Special Job Exchange Forum (BKK) and BK at Vocational High Schools (SMK) Boyolali Regency to foster student career construction. It is also hoped that this training will be able to create a link and match for internal and external efficiency needs that have been announced earlier by the Special Job Exchange (BKK) partners in Boyolali Regency to obtain figures of prospective SMK graduates who can work, have extraordinary abilities, and have superior character.
