FKIP – English Language Education Study Program Service Team (PBI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta in collaboration with the Diponegoro Foundation held training and dedication to writing best practice papers by utilizing artificial intelligence technology (AI) for English teachers. The UNS dedication team consisted of Dra. Dewi Rochsantiningsih M.Ed.,Ph.D, Drs. Martono M.A., Ellisa Indriyani Putri Handayani S.Pd., M.Hum., Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati, M.Pd., and Dewi Cahyaningrum S.Pd., M.Pd.

This service activity was carried out in 6 meetings, including one offline meeting on July 13, 2023. The meeting was held in the Diponegoro Islamic Middle School Hall. Around 80 English teachers from the Diponegoro Foundation and other invited English teachers participated in this activity. Then, the service will be continued with 5 online meetings via the Zoom Meeting application from July 18 to August 14, 2023.

The background for this best practice paper training service activity with AI technology is that many teachers need help to write scientific papers, including best practice papers. From previous research, many teachers in Indonesia still need help conducting scientific publications in the form of journal articles or scientific papers. In addition, teachers must still become competent in utilizing AI technology to support learning and professional development. Therefore, the PBI FKIP UNS Service Team organized this workshop to solve this problem.

In his remarks, Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati, M.Pd. as chairman of the event in the offline meeting at the Diponegoro Islamic Middle School Hall, expressed her hopes for implementing this service activity.

“We hope this activity can help ladies and gentlemen write and compile Best Practice papers using Artificial Intelligence technology. All of today’s material will be delivered by UNS English Language Education lecturers who are competent in their fields. This activity is also a forum for discussion for fathers and mothers to share and discuss problems and solutions in teaching English in class. Thus, it can improve your professional quality and career in the future,” said Dr. Nur Arifah.

Offline service activities are filled with the presentation of material regarding the use of AI in preparing papers. Dewi Cahyaningrum S.Pd., M.Pd. as one of the lecturers, revealed that AI is an artificial intelligence machine technology or computer with the same capabilities as human intelligence. Along with technological developments, AI is used in the world of education. Teachers can use this AI technology to help write or compile and even look for ideas in scientific papers to support their learning process and professional development.

“We can take advantage of AI technology in our papers, but we don’t leave everything to AI. To get good papers, the authors must remain involved,” said Dewi.

Activities are carried out by presenting the material, question and answer, practice, and discussion in small groups. Participants can practice the material presented and discuss it with other participants in small groups. The participants felt very helped by this activity.

“I am very happy to take part in this training activity. Here I can get to know other teachers, share knowledge, and gain new knowledge, which is very useful for my professional development as a teacher,” said one of the teachers participating in the training.
